Exceptional Care for Children is Delaware's first and only non-profit pediatric skilled nursing facility. Listed amongst the top 100 nursing homes in the country, we provide transitional, long-term, and end of life care to children who are very medically fragile in a home-like environment outside of an acute care hospital. The goal is to create an environment where these children can put their med

ical challenges aside and experience life as a kid. Since opening our doors in 2006, ECC has continued to change the lives of so many wonderful children and their families. Located on a beautiful 7.7 acre campus with a pond and walking trail, we now have 31 individual hand painted bedrooms, an adaptive playground, speech, physical, and occupational therapy, play therapy and educational services, a field trip committee dedicated to providing the children with experiences outside of the facility, and amazing staff and volunteers who continue to create smiles and memories. Every child deserves to experience the magic of childhood milestones, like Field Day! 🌟 Our residents had a fantastic day filled with pure joy, laughter, and so many smiles!

Adaptability and inclusion were on full display today as our medically fragile residents enjoyed customized, accessible games that let everyone participate to the fullest.

Last week, ECC took a exciting step forward in making our community even more inclusive! 💙

In honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we hosted the Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative (DATI) for a specialized Switch Adaptive Toy Training.

This training teaches our team how to adapt and modify electronics and toys, ensuring that all of our residents—regardless of ability—can interact, play, and thrive.

It was the perfect way to honor a day dedicated to accessibility. A massive thank you to DATI for sharing their time and knowledge with us!

Members of our admin and therapy teams had a fantastic time at Dover Motor Speedway on Friday, May 15th teaming up to raise funds for Speedway Children's Charities (SCC)! 🏎️💨

We are incredibly grateful for SCC's ongoing support over the years. Their generous donations to our Mobility Program and Speech Therapy Communication Fund have made a massive impact on the lives of the children and families we serve.

From alphabet songs to storytime giggles, our kids don’t have to choose between healing and education. By integrating school directly with medical care, our teachers and nurses work together to ensure every child can grow academically and socially.

On Saturday, this incredible crew rolled up their sleeves and spent the day spreading mulch and tackling beautifully refreshed landscaping all around our property. Thanks to their hard work and dedication our grounds are looking absolutely fantastic!

🍕 Field Trip Fun! Recently, we had our first field trip of the year to Chuck E. Cheese, and the excitement was absolutely contagious!

For the residents at ECC, these outings are about so much more than just games. Because of their complex medical needs, leaving the facility requires extraordinary planning—including a team of nurses, adaptive equipment, and emergency supplies. But seeing their faces light up at the arcade makes every bit of coordination worth it.

We believe childhood shouldn't be confined to a facility. Every child deserves to explore the world, make memories, and simply be a kid.

✨ How you can help: These adventures are only possible because of your support! Donor gifts fund the specialized transportation and extra staffing needed to turn a simple outing into a cherished memory.
