“Your labs are normal.”
…but are they actually optimal?

At WNY Integrative Wellness, we look beyond the broad “normal” ranges and focus on how you actually FEEL. Many people are told their labs are “fine” while still struggling with fatigue, hair loss, low energy, brain fog, poor recovery, low mood, and more.

Here are a few examples of NORMAL vs OPTIMAL:
🩸 Vitamin B12
“Normal” lab range may start around 200
Many people feel best with levels 750+
Low or low-normal B12 may contribute to:
✔ Fatigue
✔ Brain fog
✔ Tingling/numbness
✔ Low mood
✔ Poor focus

☀️ Vitamin D
Labs may call 30 “normal”
We often aim for 70+
Low vitamin D may contribute to:
✔ Low immunity
✔ Fatigue
✔ Depression
✔ Muscle aches
✔ Hair thinning

🩸 Ferritin (Iron Storage)
You may be told your iron is “normal” even with a ferritin of 15–30
We often aim for 70+
Low ferritin may contribute to:
✔ Hair loss/shedding
✔ Fatigue
✔ Shortness of breath
✔ Restless legs
✔ Exercise intolerance

Normal vs optimal lab goals
Examples of commonly accepted normal ranges compared with functional wellness targets used to support symptoms and optimization.

The good news? We can help identify deficiencies and create a personalized plan to improve them through: 💉 In-clinic injections
💊 Supplement recommendations
🥗 Nutrition guidance
🧪 Lab evaluations
🩺 Medication management when appropriate

If you’ve been told “everything looks normal” but still don’t feel like yourself, it may be time to look deeper.

Did you know that adding L-Lysine may help improve your ability to raise iron stores and ferritin levels?

Many people take iron supplements for months and still struggle to significantly improve ferritin. One possible reason? Iron absorption and utilization are influenced by more than just iron intake alone.

Research has shown that amino acids like lysine may play a role in enhancing iron uptake and utilization:

🔹 In a classic absorption study published in The Journal of Nutrition, researchers found that L-lysine enhanced intestinal iron uptake by helping form absorbable iron complexes in the gut.

🔹 Another study evaluating iron amino acid chelates found that iron bound to amino acids had dramatically improved absorption compared to standard iron salts:
• Ferrous bisglycinate absorption was 4 TIMES higher than ferrous sulfate in whole-maize meals (6.0% vs 1.7% absorption)

🔹 Research also shows that iron absorption is strongly tied to ferritin levels:
• Premenopausal women with ferritin around 15 had estimated iron absorption rates of 27.2%
• At ferritin levels of 60, absorption dropped to around 10.6%

This helps explain why many patients with chronically low ferritin may need a more strategic approach than simply “taking more iron.”

Low ferritin may contribute to:
✔ Hair loss or thinning
✔ Fatigue
✔ Restless legs
✔ Brain fog
✔ Poor exercise tolerance
✔ Feeling cold
✔ Poor thyroid conversion

At WNY Integrative Wellness , we focus on WHY ferritin may be low in the first place and how to optimize absorption, inflammation, gut health, nutrition, and supplementation strategies.

As always, iron supplementation is not one-size-fits-all. Iron overload is possible, so proper lab evaluation is important before starting supplements.

WNY Integrative Wellness is growing!

We are looking to add a per diem Registered Nurse (RN) and a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to our team approximately one day per week to start.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is independent, motivated, caring, and interested in a functional health approach — looking beyond “normal” labs and working toward true health optimization.

Both the RN and NP should be comfortable with or excited to learn more about:
✨ Wellness injections
✨ IV hydration
✨ Weight loss support
✨ Hormone optimization
✨ Functional health and root-cause thinking
✨ Helping patients feel their best, not just “fine”

The ideal person is a good listener, thoughtful, caring, motivated, independent, and a lifelong learner. We are looking for someone who truly enjoys patient care and wants to grow with a small but expanding wellness practice.

The position can be flexible depending on the right person:
Option 1: Per diem/productivity-based
Come in only when you have scheduled appointments.

Option 2: Set hours one day per week
Have a consistent weekly schedule and grow into the role.

NP Requirement:
The Nurse Practitioner must have at least 3,600 hours of experience and be able to work independently.

There is opportunity for growth, to build your own patient panel, choose the services you are most interested in, and grow along with the business.

Discounted services are included as a team perk.
