I know people who work in prior authorizations who don't do appeals.
The insurance company denies the medication, the denial comes back, and that's where it ends.
And I have a problem with that.
A denial does not always mean the fight is over. Sometimes it means we need more documentation. Sometimes we need to show what the patient has already tried. Sometimes we need a letter of medical necessity. Sometimes we need to appeal and make the insurance company look at the case again.
When we have the knowledge to keep fighting for a patient's medically necessary medication and simply don't, we're failing that patient.
This is one of the exact reasons I offer prior authorization appeal support through The Compass Collective.
Because “denied” shouldn't automatically mean “give up.”
