The first time I heard the term,"the world as it should be" it sounded light weight, too aspirational. I don't like 'shoulds'. Over time, I understood how Saul Alinsky based community organizing uses aspiration to grow our power. The power of numbers of individuals in relation to large systems. In the last few months, we've seen what happens when large systems fail to keep us safe and individuals suffer. The last few weeks, we've seen what the power of individuals can do in the streets of this country
Many of us in the chronic illness world live with limited resources that we must use to hold onto and grow our personal power. It takes grit, determination and a whole lot of patience. Where possible, you build your capacity to face the inequities of life and the unknown. There's no end point, just a journey made easier when we find guides to lead us.
That's why this post looks at points of intersection between living with chronic illness, the Black Lives Matter movement, and Covid-19.
