YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN DETERMINE YOUR SELF-WORTH

While someone's reactions can be triggered by something you did, how they choose to respond is entirely their responsibility. If they choose to respond with love or anger, that is not a reflection on you - that is an internal choice by that individual. Therefore, you can not make someone feel angry or you can not make someone feel love.

Likewise, no one can make you feel anything, that is kind of liberating isn't it? What would you do if you had no fear?

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO NOT TAKE THINGS PERSONALLY

Have you ever had it happen where someone was rude to you, maybe it was at the check out line or someone cut you off in traffic and it derailed your entire day? Are you someone that is always assuming that you did something wrong and you are the problem?

Reiki has helped me understand that people's behavior is an outward reflection of their internal state. It is not about you. If someone gets mad, angry or upset sometimes our reaction immediately goes to "Did I do something wrong?" However, that person's response is not an accurate assessment of your self-worth. Their anger is just that - their anger. It is not a value judgment about you.

I HAVEN'T POSTED IN AWHILE AND HERE IS WHY

When I first started out with my business, I thought that I wanted to work with women struggling with IBS. However, the more I got into it, something didn't seem right. Something didn't seem right about our current approach to managing health. I didn't like how women were so hard on themselves. I didn't like how they perceive themselves as being broken or lacking in someway.

This is one area that I personally feel healthcare is missing the mark on whether it be Functional or Conventional medicine. Women head out ordering expensive lab tests or GI panels, creating the "perfect" diet and workout plan that is extremely difficult to stick too, spending hundreds on supplements, practitioners charging thousands of dollars to give you the secret to health so then you can be happy. We think let's just try one more program, read one more book and then I'll feel whole. The system whether conventional or functional is profiting off the mindset that we as women need to be fixed.

I encourage and challenge you to remember that you are enough. Just for today, what if you accepted yourself as a whole, even the parts you want to "throw away" because they aren't "pretty." We all have parts of us that cause shame and judgment. What if we lived our lives with radical self-acceptance and recognize those parts of us that do not meet the standards of our harsh inner critic?

IS LOW STOMACH ACID THE CAUSE OF YOUR HEARTBURN?

Remember that acid vs base lesson we learned about in high school that we never thought we would use again?

Well, if you struggle with heart burn or gasritis let’s revisit that concept. Can you believe the soda can on the left is actually in a base solution?! Seems like it causes a lot more damage then the acid on the right.

If you are struggling with a burning pain in your stomach along with gastritis, it might be worth it to take a look at your stomach acid. Too much or too little can cause a problem for sure.

Take the test, try drinking 1/2 cold glass water with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. The theory is if it takes you longer than 3 - 5 minutes to burp, you may be low in stomach acid.

NEED SUPPORT FOR STRESS AND YOUR STOMACH?

If you are like me, my stress response was activated on overdrive post-COVID, I couldn’t even take a supplement without it super flaring up my gastritis. Im serious, even something like glutamine or curcumin, which is super mild would create issues.

Needless to say, I had to start getting creative in finding ways to turn off my fight - or - flight response. One thing I turned to was tea, however I couldn’t find one that supported my adrenal function and stomach. I also didn’t want to drink a bunch of different teas because I needed sleep and didn’t want to wake up in the middle of the night to p*e.

That is when I decided to start combining teas. I cut the tea bags and put them in a French press, making sure I steep for 10 minutes. Here is the combo I use:

Reishi Mushroom - supports your immune system, turns your nervous system down and support sleep

Peppermint - helps ease stomach pain and bloating

Stomach Ease - uses a combination of herbs to support digestion and reduce intestinal inflammation.

Do any of you mix your teas?

FOR WHOEVER NEEDS TO HEAR THIS TODAY....

I got reminded today that sometimes in life we don't have all the answers and we are not always able to "fix" everything. Especially for those chronic overthinkers, sometimes life is easier if we just accept things for how they are and release our expectations of time lines. Our bodies and healing will happen on it's own time, trust the process and be ok with needing time to yourself for awhile.

JUST DIAGNOSED WITH METHANE-DOMINANT SIBO, NOW WHAT?

One mistake I see all the time when it comes to treating methane-producing species is the use of Rifaximin alone, but did you know that is only about 30% effective? That is because it is not technically a bacteria, but a single-celled organism called an archaea.

Large amounts of methane-production in the intestinal track can cause symptoms such as severe constipation, bloating, gas and unexplained weight gain. If you have been diagnosed or currently testing for SIBO, you are going to want to check out this episode when considering your treatment options.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR HOLIDAY A BIT MORE GUT FRIENDLY THIS YEAR

Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE advocate of just enjoying the holidays and not worrying about what is on the table for that particular day. if you will.

However, when you struggle with debilitating gut issues, having that freedom comes with a price. Missed time with loved ones. That is why the next two months I'll be offering you suggestions each week on how you can upgrade your holiday staples to make them more gut friendly. Starting with the green bean casserole. Does anyone have this at their holiday get together?

Try this instead: Sautéed green beans

Place green beans in a pan and drizzle with garlic infused olive oil. Saute for 8 - 10 minutes, you want them to still be a little crispy. Place in a serving dish and sprinkle over slivered almonds and a drizzle of Magic Mushroom Caesar Dressing.***

****now I do realize that the above dressing recommendation has sunflower oil in it that has omega-6 fatty acids, which can be inflammatory. HOWEVER, if we are looking at that versus the Campbell soup version, this is a much better alternative.

RESISTANCE TO CHANGE IS NOT ALWAYS A BAD THING.....

Resistance is serving a purpose. It is there to protect you. Maybe there is resistance because of fear of failure. Maybe it is there because it is a sign of shame for not being able to resolve an issue. Maybe resistance is there because you are psychologically drained and just need a break.

Whatever your reason for resistance, is that thought still serving you? If it is, that is ok. Despite what others may tell you, it does not mean you are not invested in changing. You should always be an active participant in establishing your health goals.
