Happy Veterans day! As a wife of a veteran, today is special. Today we remember all veterans! Being married to a veteran has its blessings, challenges, highs and lows. Our marriage is far from perfect but we both work on it the best we can. My veteran has suffered multiple TBIs (traumatic brain injuries) which brings a different perspective on live. We have good days and bad days. Each day is a new day and we take it in stride. One thing I do know is he strives to help other veterans to become their best self. Recently I heard another veteran comment about how he was in a dark place not long ago... his statement of "I knew in this dark place I needed other veterans. This was the only way I was going to make it out." It has really sat heavy on my heart today. I see this need sometimes in my own spouse. The camaraderie that is built between the men and women is what keeps them going. If your veteran is struggling maybe they need the camaraderie of other service members. There are hundreds of programs out there that help veterans link up, deal with stress, financial issues, job finding, mental health, and recreational assistance. I am currently working with my spouse to provide information on some of the programs he has participated in and benefited from.
