Apparently I have a hard time saying no when someone asks me to draw something with wings. 🦋
These two little ladies went in completely different directions — one delicate and quiet in black & grey, the other with those beautiful blues and tiny touches of gold — and that’s one of the things I love most about tattooing.
The subject can be the same and the tattoo can still belong completely to the person wearing it.
When I create a design for someone, I’m thinking about much more than the object itself: where it’s going to live on the body, how it should move in that space, how much detail it can comfortably hold, and what kind of personality the person wants it to have.
So if your entire tattoo idea currently consists of something like “I want a moth, but make it a little weird” or “some kind of blue butterfly” — that is actually plenty to start with. 😄
Those are some of my favorite conversations to have.
And yes, this is me quietly admitting that I would love an excuse to draw more butterflies, moths, beetles, cicadas and all the other tiny creatures people usually discover in their house and immediately call someone else to deal with. 🖤
