โœจRecap of our HUGs Cafe graduation โœจ
We had such a beautiful cohort of mamas and itโ€™s been truly such an invigorating part of our work at MPJ to bring community together in an intentional way that centers the postpartum experience ๐Ÿ’œ

Are you a Black mama who is wanting to build village postpartum? Then our HUGs Cafe program may be for you!

We gather three times a week at different Black owned cafes and we offer our mamas small stipends for meals. The little ones are, of course, welcome ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿคฑ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’ซ

We hope to see you there! Rsvp link in bio ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

Earth Day is everyday, and there is never a wrong time to speak about the environmental inequities that Black women disproportionately face. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿคฒ๐Ÿพ

Studies have linked estrogen related diseases like breast cancer to environmental factors like air pollution, which Black women are exposed to at much higher rates than their white counterparts.

How can we consider birthing healthy families and sustaining the wellness of our communities if we are exceedingly exposed to environmental toxicants that impact our reproductive wellness? ๐Ÿค”

Not to mention that most cities are food deserts, so Black women and birthing people experience the highest rates of malnutrition in the US. ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

Itโ€™s C-section Awareness Month and at MPJ we find it important to address the alarming cesarean rates within the context of the US medical system and around the world. โœจ

A 2022 study revealed that the rate of primary cesarean deliveries was 22,5 per 100 live births.

While often times unplanned, after belly birth we can discover ways to honor ourselves and bond with our babies during the postpartum healing period. ๐Ÿ’›

If youโ€™re in a healing process after belly birth, youโ€™re not alone. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

You can call on the love of family & community and affirm to yourself, โ€œI am strong and capable of healing from a c-section. I trust in my body and in this process. I am worthy of love & supportโ€

Youโ€™ve got this mama! ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’ซ

This , we are claiming the right to live and thrive despite racism, poverty, and structural policies that affect our access to quality and equitable reproductive health care.

We are incorporating the frameworks of human rights, social justice, and feminist theories of intersectionality into our activism, outreach, and scholarship. This , supports us and in the movement for better maternal, reproductive and birth outcomes for Black Mamas and birthing people!

Black Maternal Health week is just around the corner! ๐ŸคŽ

But let every day be an opportunity to apply pressure to the systems that disenfranchise Black women & birthing people!

We need to talk about how essential is to the movement of combating maternal mortality! ๐Ÿ’ฏโœจ

๐ŸŒพloving your postpartum body๐ŸŒพ

As our bodies change throughout pregnancy, as our bellies widen, our skin stretches to embrace the life that is growing inside of us. Often times we are reminded of this holding by the softness of our postpartum bellies.

This within itself is a rite of passage.

How are you taking time to love your changing body, and to honor it as it is? ๐ŸคŽ
