What you book gives me a starting point. What your horse shows me and what you tell me help guide the conversation from there.
Before an initial session, I ask enough questions to understand what the owner is noticing and why they requested a particular service. I may offer some initial thoughts, but I will usually say that I need to see the horse first.
During the session, my questions become more specific.
I may ask what a particular movement feels like under saddle, whether the warm-up has changed, when something first started, or what has recently changed with the horse’s workload, tack, shoeing, or routine.
What I am feeling through the horse’s body gives those answers more context. The owner’s answers also help me understand what they are trying to accomplish.
If we started with PEMF and I feel the horse may benefit from REST/Core Aligned Therapy next, I will explain what I noticed and why I am recommending it. Then we can discuss the owner’s goals, budget, schedule, and what makes sense moving forward.
Sometimes the recommendation is another session of the same type. Sometimes it is a different approach or a conversation with another member of the horse’s care team.
A useful recommendation has to fit both the horse and the person responsible for their care.
Has a question during a session ever made you think differently about what your horse needed?
