☀️ SUMMER MEALS START TODAY! ☀️

We had an absolute blast kicking off the summer at West Ogden Park today! The energy was high, the weather was perfect, and the corn dogs were a massive hit! 🌭✨

Here is everything you need to know to keep your kids fed and having fun all summer long:

🍽️ What’s on the Menu?

Breakfast: Served at school sites only.
Lunch: Served at ALL sites (including our community parks!).
Cost: 100% FREE for all kids and teens ages 0 to 18.

🔬 Science at the Park is BACK!

A huge shoutout to our incredible partners at Weber State University! Today, they taught the kids all about the science of sound and how different noises are made—plus, everyone got to look through some amazing telescopes! 🪐🔭

Good news: Science at the Parks will be hanging out with us at West Ogden Park all week long! Bring the kids by for free food and awesome hands-on learning.

While the kids are fueling up with the Summer Park Lunch Program, they can also become junior scientists with free, hands-on science activities. From wild experiments to fascinating discoveries, our WSU science partners have some mind-blowing projects lined up!

Grab a healthy lunch, spark your curiosity, and experiment with us. 🍉🧪

🎉 STAFF SPOTLIGHT & BITTERSWEET FAREWELL 🎉

Today, we are honoring a true legend in our Child Nutrition family: Bonnie Munson! 💛

After an incredible 44 years of dedicated service to our district’s students and community, Bonnie officially retired at the end of this school year. To say she has done it all is an understatement—Bonnie has worked in almost every single capacity our child nutrition program offers!

She has brought smiles to so many schools across the district over the decades. Most notably, she served as the beloved kitchen manager at James Madison for a long time up until its closing, and she wrapped up her amazing career spending her last few years cooking up love for the students at Lincoln.

Beyond the kitchen, Bonnie has been a vibrant, active member of the School Nutrition Association (SNA). Anyone who has been to a conference with her knows that if there is live music playing, you can find Bonnie absolutely boogeying down on the dance floor! 💃🎵

Bonnie, you have been an absolute joy, a pillar of our team, and a bright spot in the days of thousands of students. We are going to miss your energy, your dedication, and your heart so much.

Thank you for 44 unforgettable years. Enjoy every bit of your well-deserved retirement—we hope it’s filled with lots of rest, relaxation, and plenty of live music to dance to! 🥂✨

Master the Masa: Pupusas, Tamales & Empanadas
Course Description:
Unlock the secrets to Latin America’s favorite comfort foods! In this fun, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the art of working with masa and pastry from scratch. Our expert chefs will guide you step-by-step through making three iconic dishes:
🫓 Salvadoran Pupusas: Stuff, shape, and griddle cheesy corn cakes, often paired with homemade curtido slaw.
🫔 Traditional Tamales: Season fluffy masa, add savory fillings, and master the perfect corn husk wrap for steaming.
🇦🇷Crispy Empanadas: Make a flaky dough, learn the signature braided fold, and bake/fry them to golden perfection.

🧍‍♀️ Who: Anyone solo or on a date (Ages 18+)
⏰ When: June 25th from 6 to 9pm
🗺️ Where: OSD Child Nutrition Building
💰 Registration: Prepay $50 a person using Venmo to secure your spot. Class has only 15 spots.

We celebrated our milestone-reaching employees earlier in the month with a wonderful Years of Service Luncheon at the Timbermine Steakhouse. We are so grateful for our staff and everything they do—we couldn’t do any of this without them. We will miss the ones retiring.
