Join us for a Community Workshop with the OgdenCAN Civic Action Lab where we’ll explore creative, accessible ways to get moving and build more opportunities for physical activity and connection.

We’ll explore how we access nature, what social activities get you out and about, and those everyday ways that get us moving—and we want YOUR ideas!

Today, OgdenCAN joined Weber-Morgan Health Department, Ogden City Government, and other community partners for an afternoon of park auditing in the East Central neighborhood. Thank you for walking us through the process Weber-Morgan Health!

So, what exactly is a park audit? 👀

It’s simply a way of taking a closer look at a park through the eyes of the people who use it. We walk the space, observe what we see, and ask questions like: Is it welcoming? Is it easy to get around? Are there places to sit, play, gather, and connect? What’s working well? And what could make the park even better for neighbors?

Neighborhood parks are a shared backyard. And sometimes, community connection starts with a walk in the park.

Introducing the Civic Action Lab!

We’re excited to launch a brand-new 11-week pilot program designed to help residents turn ideas into meaningful action in their communities.

Compensation of $250 at the completion of the pilot program will be provided.

The Civic Action Lab is an introduction to the Community Leaders Network for residents of East Central Ogden and surrounding neighborhoods.

Throughout the program, you’ll learn practical tools from local experts in asset-based community development, design thinking, and community building. You’ll also work alongside fellow residents to develop and test a group project focused on creating positive change in our neighborhoods.

Come learn, connect, collaborate, and help us shape this new pilot experience!

Our parters at Weber-Morgan Health Department are conducting a new community health assessment and your voice is a critical to this process.

Information gathered will identify your community priorities, guide future health improvement plans and how resources and services are directed across all ur communities.

The first 400 eligible households will receive a $10 gift card.

🌲 🌳 Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Tree Walk at Lester Park! 🌳 🌴

Through a special collaboration between Weber State graphic design and botany students, faculty, and the community, this project resulted in tree walk maps and fun educational activities for people of all ages.

This project celebrates the natural assets already growing in our neighborhoods while creating opportunities for connection, learning, and exploration.

Stay tuned for more tree walks and information on where you can pick up a map to explore the amazing trees in your neighborhood!

🌳 Fun Fact: Did you know that a Sweetgum tree can take 20–30 years before it begins producing flowers and seeds? Its fragrant sap, known as “styrax,” has a long history of use in traditional medicine, and perfumes. The next time you pass a Sweetgum tree, take a moment to appreciate the decades of growth and stories it holds!

Weber State University students and faculty from the Botany and Graphic Design departments partnered with Thrive at Lester Park community members to create a Tree Walk at Lester Park!

Join us on Wednesday, June 24 at 6:30 PM at Lester Park for popsicles, community connection, and an evening of tree exploration and fun.

We'll unveil a beautiful Tree Walk map designed by Botany and Graphic Design students, featuring information about the park's trees and interactive educational activities for all ages to enjoy.

Come see the creativity and the trees of our neighborhood. We can't wait to see you there!
