Spring movement can be:

Walking to check the mail instead of driving. Stretching in the sunshine for 3 minutes. Gardening counts. Chasing the dog counts. Living counts.

What are “Quiet Red Flags”?

A quiet red flag is a small change people make to avoid discomfort, pain, or feeling unsteady, without ever saying there is a problem.

Here are a few examples:
• Holding the handrail tighter than before
• Sitting down to get dressed when you used to stand
• Avoiding stairs, laundry, or carrying groceries
• Moving slower in public places to avoid losing balance

These changes feel minor, but they are often early signs of balance issues, back pain, or decreased confidence with movement. Most people adapt instead of asking for help, which is why these red flags are easy to miss.

Occupational therapy focuses on identifying these early changes and addressing them before they turn into falls, injuries, or loss of independence.
