🐦‍⬛☀️ BALDER DAY — THE STORY YOU PROBABLY HAVEN’T HEARD ☀️🐦‍⬛

Most of us know the story of Balder and the mistletoe.

But there is another tale of Balder — one that is rarely told.

In the writings of the Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus, Balder appears under the name Balderus, and his story is almost completely different.

Here, Balderus is described as a demigod and powerful warrior who becomes a rival to Hother for the love of Nanna.

Balderus is no ordinary man. His body cannot be wounded by ordinary weapons, and he is supported by the gods themselves.

But Hother refuses to give up.

After seeking out mysterious beings of the forest and obtaining a weapon capable of harming Balderus, Hother eventually faces him again.

And this time, Balderus is wounded.

But here is the part that always catches my attention…

Balderus does not die immediately.

He remains alive for three days, suffering from his wound, before finally dying. He is then buried with royal honors.

No blind brother.

No Loki guiding a hand.

No mistletoe thrown at a beloved god.

Just Balderus, Hother, Nanna, ancient magic, and a completely different telling of the tale.

And sometimes, the forgotten threads are the most fascinating ones.
