I suck at being married.

And I’m completely okay saying that.

The main difference between me and a lot of guys who are miserably married is not that I’m naturally better at marriage.

It’s that I’m willing to admit where I suck.

I can hear feedback.
I can own where I’m missing it.
I can look at myself without needing to protect some fragile idea that I’m already doing a “pretty good” job.

That takes humility.

And humility gives you somewhere to go.

The dangerous place is not admitting you suck.

The dangerous place is being convinced you’re “pretty good.”

Because if you think you’re pretty good, you stop learning. You stop listening.

Meanwhile, your wife is miserable, you’re frustrated, and both of you keep wondering why nothing gets better.

A fragile ego will defend your current marriage.

Humility will build you a better one.

If your marriage is struggling, stop asking whether you’re a good husband.

Start asking where you still suck. It’s not going to kill you to admit that, I promise.

Marriage success is only possible with true maturity. There is no shortcut around that.

Marriages don't break down because of a lack of communication, or date nights, or love languages, or any of the other stupid reasons people blame. They break down for one reason: lack of maturity.

Save this and read the list for later. Be honest about which ones are yours. That's where the work starts.
