Let’s be clear… at 43 years old, I did NOT think I was about to keep up with high school cross country runners.

I’m in good shape. I work out. I run. I lift.

But these kids literally train to run endurance events FOR SPORT. 😂

I knew exactly how this was going to end. My son crushes me in every fun run we do together.

But one thing I’ve always believed as a mom and as coach is that I never want to ask kids to push themselves through something I’m not at least willing to try alongside them.

So when I ask them to dig a little deeper, keep going when they’re tired, finish the last repeat, or get comfortable being uncomfortable… sometimes that means Coach has to get out there and be uncomfortable too. 💪❤️

Will they absolutely leave me behind?
YES. 😂

Will I still lace up my shoes and try?
Also yes.

Because I may not be able to run their pace, but I can show them what it looks like to keep pushing at mine.

And somewhere wayyyyy up ahead…
“COME BACKKKKK!” 😂

Getting dressed for this new chapter still feels a little surreal.

After spending the last two decades working in business, marketing, branding, social media and entrepreneurship, I now get to walk into a classroom every day and teach kids about the very things I’ve spent my career actually doing.

And I LOVE that.

I didn’t leave one career behind to become something completely different. I found a way to take everything I’ve learned and bring it into a new space where I can hopefully make an impact in a completely different way.

We’re not just learning definitions from a textbook. We’re talking about businesses they know, brands they interact with, why people buy things, how teams work, how ideas become businesses and how the skills they’re learning now actually show up in the real world and then we do a real world project!

And yes… apparently I also get a whole new reason to plan outfits every week. 😂👗

44 is right around the corner, and I think one of my favorite things about this season of life is realizing you are never too old, too established or too far down one path to try something new.

Sometimes building a life by design means being willing to pivot when an opportunity feels right.

Here’s to new classrooms, new challenges, lots of learning on BOTH sides of the teacher desk… and figuring out what exactly a middle school business teacher wears along the way. 😂

Back to school looks a little different for us this year… because this time, I’m heading to school with them.

Kara is off to 7th grade, Conner is starting 10th grade, and I’m starting a brand-new school year of my own. ❤️

After years of sending them off for their first day, it feels a little surreal to be making a career pivot that has me walking into the classroom too …. this time as a CTE teacher, teaching practical business and marketing skills to middle school students.

And I really couldn’t have picked a better fit for me.

If you know me, you know projects are my jam. Give me an idea, a problem to solve, something to create, organize, market, launch or make happen and I am ALL IN.

So I cannot wait to get these kiddos thinking, creating, collaborating and learning through real-world application in my business class.

So here we go…

7th grade. 10th grade. And year ONE for Mom. 🥹

A whole new kind of back-to-school for our little crew, and I’m pretty excited to see where this year takes all three of us.
