Happy birthday, Float8!

On Monday, August 21, 2017 - during the first solar eclipse to cross North America in 99 years - we celebrated the grand opening of Float8 DFB!

Barefoot ceremonial blessing of the space while the mayor and city commissioners wandered about followed by ribbon cutting, DJ x Native American flute + singing bowls for entertainment, lively crowd of new and old friends.

For some, today is easy: golf, grill, a card, no complications.

For others, it's layered. Love, but also distance. Pride, but also memories that didn't go the way you wanted. Gratitude sitting right alongside some old suffering.
Wherever you fall on that today, I see you.

My dad and I haven't always had it easy. We've had closer seasons and harder ones; years where we didn't agree on much, and a stretch where it took real work to find our way back to each other. I don't think that makes us unusual. I think most families have a version of this, even if nobody posts about it.

He was my first coach, and he's still cheering for me today. When I was a kid, he'd encourage me pedaling up a steep hill on my bike with a simple "no pain, no gain," something that stuck with me well beyond two wheels, through some of the harder challenges since.

Soccer was our bond as a kid and through school. A few years ago, Inter Miami became the thing that brought us back into the same room, season after season watching a franchise build itself from nothing into something. I don't think it's a coincidence that we were rebuilding too.

Floating works a little differently than the way he raised me - no pain required, just stillness - but the gain is just as real. Patience, the long view, letting something take the time it needs instead of forcing it. I bring a version of that into how I show up with my dad now.

Today we're watching World Cup matches together. We attended a game back in '94, and I'm sure we'll reminisce about it.

If your relationship with your dad is easy today, that's a gift...enjoy it. If it's complicated, that's real too, and you're not alone in it.

However today lands for you, take a moment for yourself if you need it. Happy Father's Day. To the dads, to the ones missing their dads, and to everyone in between - sending floaty vibes your way.
