We are incredibly grateful to receive a $5,000 grant through the Corley Memorial Trust, a program created in honor of a longtime community member who cared deeply about giving back.

This support will help us continue to expand transportation services for the individuals we serve at The Independent Living Center. For many people with disabilities or specialized needs, transportation plays a key role in connection and community involvement. As we grow our peer support opportunities, social outings, and other activities, reliable and accessible transportation becomes even more essential.

We appreciate this investment in our mission and in the people we serve. It helps ensure greater access to resources, relationships, and opportunities that support independent living and full community participation.

Thank you to the Corley Memorial Trust for making this possible.

The Hometown Heroes Banners Are Up!

The Washington Parks & Recreation Department is proud to announce that this year's Hometown Heroes banners have been installed along Front Street in our historic downtown district.

As you walk or drive through downtown, we encourage you to take a moment to look at these banners and reflect on the incredible men and women they represent. Each banner honors a local veteran, active-duty military member, or first responder whose service, sacrifice, and commitment have helped protect our freedoms and strengthen our community.

The Hometown Heroes Banner Program was launched in 2023 by the Franklin County Hero Network in partnership with the City of Washington and Downtown Washington, Inc. Family members are invited to submit information about loved ones they wish to honor, while local businesses and community sponsors help make the program possible through banner sponsorships.

A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to:

❤️ The military members, veterans, and first responders honored on these banners. Your courage, dedication, and willingness to put yourselves in harm's way for others will never be forgotten.

💙 The founders and volunteers of the Franklin County Hero Network for their vision, hard work, and continued commitment to recognizing our hometown heroes.

🤍 The local businesses and community sponsors whose generosity helps keep this program thriving.

💪 And a special thank you to our Washington Parks & Recreation crew, whose hard work and teamwork ensured each banner was safely installed and proudly displayed for our community to enjoy.

The banners will remain on display throughout the season as a visible reminder of the heroes who have served our nation and our community.

Thank you to everyone who helps make this meaningful tradition possible. We are honored to play a small role in recognizing those who have given so much.
