Before Terra Frma, I was (and still am) a life coach. I specialized in resistance and resilience — my job was literally helping people do the things they kept avoiding.

And I still put off getting my own family prepared for years.

Here's what I've learned about procrastination, professionally and personally: it's rarely laziness. It's usually fear, dressed up as a to-do list that feels too big to start.

The fix isn't more willpower. It's making the first step so small it barely feels like a decision — open one drawer, put one card in your glove box, look up one evacuation zone.

If you've been meaning to get ready "once things calm down" — they might not, and that's okay. Pick one small thing today. Just one. Simply starting is the key. I promise.

Be ready. Be well.

Our hearts are with everyone in Spokane right now. Thousands of families evacuated, homes lost, neighborhoods changed overnight — this is exactly the kind of moment that reminds us why we do this work.

If you're able to help, Spokane County's official emergency page has verified ways to give, volunteer, or open your home to displaced neighbors. Local relief organizations and the Red Cross are also coordinating shelter and support on the ground.

To everyone affected: you're not alone. Be well.

It's been a big month of wildfire content — founder stories, heat safety, evacuation tips.

If any of it hit home, here's the simple next step: the Disaster Deck is on Amazon now.

It covers wildfire, earthquake, flooding, heatwave, tsunami, tornado, hurricane, landslide, volcano, thunder + lightning, winter storm, and a Be Well card for the emotional side of getting through it.

Pocket-sized. Laminated. Water resistant. Fits in your glove box.

You've been reading along all month. You know why it matters.

People ask why the Disaster Deck is the size it is.

It's not an accident. Every choice was made around one question: will this actually be with you when it matters?

Three reasons it's built the way it is:

1. Pocket-sized, so it lives where you actually are — the glove box, a bag, the drawer by the door. Not a shelf you forget about.

2. Feels like a thick credit card and water resistant, so it survives a spilled coffee, a wet glove box, years of summers and winters.

3. All 12 disaster types in one place, so you're never searching multiple sources in the middle of an emergency.

It was built for the moment you don't have time to think — because by then, the thinking should already be done.

Available now on Amazon.

We can be aware of risk and still live life to the fullest.

We can look at a sky like this — smoke building over the mountains while people are out on the water, living — and hold both things at once.

Beauty and reality. Joy and readiness.
That's what Terra Frma is about. Not fear. Not panic. Not doomscrolling. Just the quiet confidence that comes from knowing what you'd do.

Be ready. Be well.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is affecting air quality across 17+ states this week — some areas seeing levels twice the federal “hazardous” threshold. Even if you’re not seeing hazy skies today, this is a good reminder of how wildfire smoke can travel hundreds of miles from the source.

A few things you can do if Air Quality drops where you are:

🔸 Check your local Air Quality Index before heading outside — don’t just go by what the sky looks like
🔸 If AQI is in the unhealthy range, move outdoor plans indoors, especially for kids, older adults, and anyone with respiratory or heart conditions
🔸 Close windows and vents, and switch your car and home AC to recirculate mode
🔸 If you must be outside, an N95 mask actually helps — a regular cloth mask doesn’t filter out the tiny particles in wildfire smoke
🔸 Keep an eye on how you feel — headache, cough, or chest tightness are signs to get to cleaner air

This is exactly what our Heatwave and Wildfire cards in the Disaster Deck walk you through — quick, calm steps for exactly this kind of moment.

Be ready. Be well.

Pay close attention to evacuation levels.

Remember — you can always evacuate early, and we highly encourage it.

Evacuation levels exist for a reason. They are not suggestions. They are the result of trained people watching fire behavior in real time, making their best calculation about risk.

If you have prepared your home to survive without you — cleared defensible space, closed windows and vents, moved vehicles out — there is nearly always little reason to stay.

Your home can be rebuilt. Your family cannot be replaced.

A wildfire can travel a mile in under two minutes under the right conditions. The time to leave is before that moment arrives.

Stay safe out there. We're thinking about all of you in fire zones this season. ❤️

Be ready. Be well.

In 2014, there was a wildfire close to our home.

I was solo parenting. My husband was away for work. I kept driving up the hill to watch the two plumes of smoke, trying to figure out how close it was getting.

The sky was beautiful and terrifying at the same time.

I had a million questions and few answers in one place. What do I pack? When do I leave? Do I get the irrigation running? I was frantically searching online, going from site to site, and none of it felt simple or clear.

I told myself I'd get properly prepared "once I had more time."

I was a trained life coach specializing in resistance and resilience. I knew exactly what I was doing. I was avoiding.

The fire was contained days later. But the experience stayed with me. And when I found myself quietly avoiding trips to the Oregon coast because I was afraid of being unprepared for an earthquake — I knew it was time to stop waiting.

I built the Disaster Deck because the product I needed didn't exist. Clear. Simple. Expert. Pocket-sized.

I know you're going to do it. 🧡

Be ready. Be well.
