Sweet Sage Honey

Sweet Sage Honey I started my bee adventure in the spring of 2024 because of the generosity of a scholarship from the WHPA. I have honey available for purchase.

Soon to come honey sticks and lip balm from the beeswax rendered from my hives.

Hive inspection day! They are all doing good. There is a lot of brood so that is great! We added honey supers to all of them today also. With the warm weather coming we are anticipating lots of flowers and trees to start blooming.

🐝It is world bee day! 🐝

What are you doing to help the bees? 🐝 🐝 🐝

I am trying to plant more native flowers and not use pesticides around my home! 🌻🌻🌻

Other things that can help is participate in no mow may and let those dandelions go. Bees love dandelions!

Hey fellow followers! I was highlighted today by the Wisconsin State FFA for SAE Sunday!

✨Today we go to the Montello FFA in section 6 to learn about Sage Trimble’s SAE in specialty animal placement.✨

🍯Sage regularly checks up on her colony and collects honey. One of Sage’s greatest accomplishments is having two successful honey harvests. Some goals Sage would like to achieve in the future are to successfully overwinter her hives and to build her apiary to 10 hives.

🐝Sage has also received some grants to help grow her SAE. One grant was from the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association and the other from the Wisconsin FFA Foundation. With this grant money she added 1 hive that came with bees, an oxalic acid vaporizer, and a 2 year membership to the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association. The oxalic acid vaporizer will help Sage use integrated pest management to combat the Varroa mites that commonly attack honeybees.

🥽Sage is proud of the fact that she regularly goes to numerous safety days, 4-H teaching sessions, and first grade classrooms to educate youth about bees and how to stay safe around the hive.

May has been a cool one. My bees have appreciated all the help I have provided (syrup, fondant, & pollen patties). So much so that I need to get them more syrup already. These cool temperatures are keeping the bees close and not allowing them to get out and gather pollen and nectar like they normally would. Despite the harsh start to spring my hives have good brood and will be booming with new bees soon.

Last year's honey that I just have not had a chance to bottle is finally going to be bottled. I put a bucket warmer on it to help make the honey easier to dispense out of the honey gate. So, keep your eyes peeled for the honey going up for sale soon!

Hey hey everyone! Yesterday my FFA chapter hosted our annual safety day where we have 4th, 5th, and 6th graders move through different stations. I hosted a bee station. Everyone was able to sample honey sticks and learn about pollination. Everyone enjoyed the honey for sure! I enjoyed getting a chance to share my knowledge with everyone.

It was bee day today! My friend was over and came along to see what it was all about. I am doing 3 hives this year. We have the syrup on and pollen patties and fondant to help them have the best start possible. My sheep were standing by supervising everything making sure we did it right. Stay tuned for more to come!
