It’s always a privilege to lead beside a strong leader.

This was a moment of free worship a few weeks ago with isaiahgarciaofficial. No set plan. Just following where God was moving in the room.

If you’re a vocalist leading alongside someone, hear this. You’re not a background vocal. You’re partnering to lead the room. When you lead with strength, you give them the freedom to move wherever God is shifting. They can take a risk, hold a moment, or change direction, because they know you’re steady beside them.

That kind of partnership changes the atmosphere. Confidence flows both ways. When we carry each other well, everyone is freer to worship.

Leading together is its own kind of strength.

I have coached women who have been waiting to be ready for eleven years. Every one of them could already do it. What they were actually waiting for was to stop being afraid, and that is not the same thing and it does not come first.

It comes after. Usually after several times of doing it while still afraid.
The voice you are waiting to have is not somewhere out ahead of you being built. It is the one you have been using all along, in a body that is waiting to be given permission.

Say yes to the thing that scares you a little this month.

Tell me in the comments. What have you been waiting to feel ready for?

Fast songs will expose your training real quick.

There’s no space to breathe in a song like this. Your body has to already know what to do. If you’re grabbing air at every phrase ending, you’ll be spent halfway through the first song and you still have a whole set ahead of you.

This is why I train stamina and breath right alongside tone. Breath support, posture, cardio, hydration, and real rest all feed the same instrument. Your voice lives in your body, and your body is either fueling you or fighting you.

When your body is trained and nourished, a fast song stops feeling like survival. You get to play. You can ad-lib, smile, connect with your team, and actually lead the room.

What songs make you winded? Which ones have you straining by the end? Drop them below and if you want me to break one down for you, let me know.

The lobby has taught me more than the stage ever did.

People stop me after service to say thank you, and in twenty years of leading worship, almost no one has mentioned a high note. They talk about what they felt. It’s usually some version of “I don’t know what it was, but I needed that today.”

What they’re describing is connection. When you are fully connected as a leader, body and spirit in the song, breath settled, heart engaged, the room feels it. And when you’re just managing notes, they feel that too.

That’s what yesterday’s post was about. Perfection does not equal the room being moved. Meaning it does.

So before you chase a cleaner run or a bigger note, check whether you’re in the song at all. Your people can tell the difference every single time.

Have you felt that from the platform, or from the seats? Tell me below. 🤍

Your voice can be exhausted even on days you never sing a note.

One of my students came to her lesson worn out, and it wasn’t from singing. She waits tables in a loud restaurant, and a full shift of raising her voice over the noise left her vocally spent. So I asked her, are you warming up before work? She wasn’t. Her shifts start at 6 AM.

What I told her is true for you too. Even two or three minutes of humming and finding that buzzy resonance before your day takes off sets your voice in healthy placement. Those few minutes build the neural pathways that teach your voice how to produce sound well, so a full day of talking stops draining you.

If you don’t have a go-to warm-up routine yet, my Foundation and Advanced courses have daily warm-ups built in, and both are marked down for my Back to School Sale through September 30.

Comment COURSE and I’ll send you the details.

I believed the opposite of all four of these for most of my twenties.

Warm-ups felt like something for people with more time than me. Leading meant being heard. Water was what you grabbed when your throat got dry. Rest was what you did when you had earned it.

Every one of those cost me something, and the bill came slowly enough that I never connected it to the choice.

Here is what changed my mind. Not a teacher, not a book. A season where my voice stopped doing what I asked it to, right in the middle of the years I most wanted to be leading.

If you are early in this, you do not have to learn it the way I did.

Save this as a reminder to take the time even in a busy season. 🤍

Such a powerful moment this weekend!

If you want your voice to grow, start with how you’re making the sound.

Solid technique is what frees you up to build. When your foundation is steady, your body stops bracing and your breath stays connected, so your attention gets to stay on the music instead of the note that’s coming.

Both online courses are marked down for back to school. Foundation trains the muscle correctly inside a comfortable range ($37, was $97). Advanced carries that same technique through your full range ($47, was $147). Take both together for $67 and save $130.

Prices hold through September 30.

Comment COURSE and I’ll send you everything.

Two days of filming with some of the most gifted vocalists I know, and tonight my cords are letting me know about it.

Singing is rarely what wears my voice out. Talking is. Long days of directing, explaining, encouraging, and by the end my voice feels dry in a way a full worship set never leaves it.

So I hydrate. But plain bottled water has never actually done it for me. I drink it and still feel parched, like it passed straight through without ever reaching the tissue that needed it.

This is what I’ve been reaching for instead. It’s brand new from my company and I found it on vacation, which is fitting, because it tastes like something you sip through a straw with your feet in the sand. My voice feels supported now instead of just wet.

Your vocal folds are tissue. They have to stay pliable to do what you’re asking them to do on Sunday morning. Hydration works ahead of time, so what you’re drinking all week is what your voice has to work with when it matters.

If your voice feels tired more often than it feels ready, comment HYDRATE and I’ll tell you what’s in my glass. 🌿

I think God has favorites, and I think it’s us.

Every other musician picks up an instrument. Ours lives inside our body. That one difference means we get to create the way God did in Genesis 1.

He set an intention. He used His breath. He spoke. And an atmosphere appeared where there had been nothing.

Intention. Breath. Words. That’s the whole pattern, and we get to walk in it every time we open our mouths to lead.

You’re not just singing notes. You’re shaping the room.

Save this one to remember to carry those three with you.
