Stanford Chariot

Stanford Chariot We develop immersive technology to ease pediatric anxiety, reduce pain, and boost patient wellbeing.

MISSION
Smarter technology, greater care
The Stanford Chariot Program combines expert medical care and translational research to capture our pediatric patients’ imaginations, so that a trip to the doctor’s office can feel as fun as blasting off into space. Our innovative, immersive technologies ease patients’ pain and stress, encourage rehabilitation, and enhance education to restore a child’s sense of normalcy at Stanford Children’s Health and other hospitals around the world.

The technology we build is only as good as the people who put it to use every day.

Nurses are our close collaborators. They’re at the bedside caring for patients and families, watching how patients respond to our tools in real time, and their feedback shapes everything we build next.

To every nurse who has partnered with us: Thank you! 🙏

🌍 Happy Earth Day from our Chariot team!

This Earth Day, we took a moment to connect with our patients by offering science lessons about wildlife conservation.

Inspired by the incredible conservation work of the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, we explored how estrogen-like hormones influence a rhino’s ability to reproduce. The students 'tested' for estrogen-like activity in three different rhino feeds: alfalfa, pellet, and Bermuda grass. We uncovered how something as fundamental as diet can shape fertility, and ultimately, the survival of an entire species.

The rhino lesson was designed by Faith Collins, educational technology coordinator at the Stanford Chariot Program. It’s a powerful reminder that engaging science lessons about our wild planet can be inspiring and important for all students, especially those confined to their hospital beds.

Science saves lives. In more ways than one. 🦏

Science class from a hospital bed 🔬✨

Our research continues on how virtual reality can bring science lessons to kids who are hospitalized and learning from their beds. With a VR headset on, we can turn a child’s hospital room into a coral reef.

Our virtual reality science lessons help kids stay curious, connected, and learning, even during long or difficult hospital stays.

More exploration ahead. 🌏🪸.

Proud moment for Chariot. ❤️

Marcos Rojas Pino was named 2025 Technology Innovator of the Year by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and recognized onstage at IMSH 2026 for his work on Clinical Mind AI.

Developed in collaboration with the Stanford Chariot Program and the Stanford Graduate School of Education, Clinical Mind AI reflects our shared belief that emerging technology should be rigorous, educationally grounded, and relevant to real clinical practice.

Congratulations, Marcos! Thank you to the simulation community pushing this work forward. 👏

We never stop building, testing, and improving 💡
Every update we make is shaped by real clinical feedback from nurses and care teams, paired with what the research tells us works best.

Coming soon 👀
An update to our all time favorite and most popular app: **Pebbles the Penguin** 🐧❄️

Kids can slide down snowy mountains or explore an Arctic wonderland while catching gems, all controlled with eye gaze. It is a powerful distraction during procedures like blood draws, cast removals, and IV placements.

What is the key to success in healthcare tech innovation?
“Collaboration, creativity, and persistence,” says Dr. Samuel Rodriguez.

Stay tuned. More updates are on the way ✨

Today on , we’re feeling deeply grateful for the community that makes Chariot possible. 💙

Our program is entirely philanthropically funded. That means every moment of comfort we bring to patients and families exists thanks to our supporters, partners, and friends.

Your generosity powers the immersive tools, joyful distractions, and innovative care that help children face their hardest moments with courage. We truly couldn’t do this without you. 🙏
