This year has been incredibly challenging. However, in the midst of everything, there's one thing I keep coming back to: prayer. Reaching out to God and giving Him permission to work in my life has been a reliable source for hope and strength. I encourage you to take a moment to pray and connect with God today. You might be surprised to find that He's been waiting for you with a smile and a bear hug. ❤️

5 Things I've learned this year:

#1 I've learned to be more gentle with myself. No one (except myself) expects perfection. Trying to live a perfect life is like trying to carry a boulder up mountain, really heavy. Life is messy and hard but I can do hard things. That's why instead, I'm learning to lean more into self compassion, curiosity and courage. I tend to soften under grace and am more apt to set intentions that lead towards growth vs. wallowing in shame heading no where at all.

#2 I can be my own worst enemy and I am a genius at making excuses as to why I can't move forward. I can also speak to myself harshly and in ways I would never speak to others. I am learning to instead listen to my self-talk and redirect myself as needed. I am learning to not compare myself with others but honor my own journey, my own strengths, gifts and flaws. I am leaning into the discomfort of my feelings and allowing them to tell me their story, my story.

#3 I've learned just like a dormant seed, I have been given all that I need to not only survive this life but to thrive. Literally, all I have is all I need and the right environment for me to grow is positioning myself under the warmth of God's love and tenderness, to drink from the Spring of His Spirit and to trust Him with all the messy pieces of this thing called life.

#4 I've learned to care for my heart just like I would tend to a garden. Checking in daily to see what I need to flourish - mind, body and spirit. To not only check in but do the things that bring me to life. To set daily intentions that make my garden heart grow.

#5 I've learned more about this word connection and how it relates to others, myself and God. I've learned I want to play a part in the community I've been placed and to allow others to see, hear and know me (even the imperfect parts). I've learned how important it is to connect to myself and to look at what's going on beneath the surface. Asking the hard questions and responding to the answers. Last but not least, I've learned how important it is to stay connected to the source of all life and how all my efforts are futile if not bathed in the love of God.

I often think of my life like a beautiful flower garden - its important to take time on a regular basis to remove weeds (take out by the root everything that doesn't serve me or my family), fertilize the soil (nourish my body with life giving foods), plant good seeds (be intentional with my thoughts and actions), water (hydrate) and create space for life to grow and flourish. This quote reminds me of this metaphor because just like in a garden if we stopped fighting for what we want in our garden the weeds would take over. I encourage you today to tend to your garden of life. You can start small but bit by bit you'll transform your life into something beautiful. Something you are excited to wake up to!

As you walk through this forest of new unknowns, may you cling all the more to peace. For high above the trees of deeply rooted uncertainty, peace is endless and it is boundless and it is exactly what you need to be reminded that the present moment is where you need to be. Look up when you need to. Let the open space remind you that you exist in a place that is so much bigger than you and the thoughts in your head. There is so much more. Even when you can’t see it. And even here, even though you do not know what's next, you are free to make bold, courageous choices...right here, where you are.

Continue to sow seeds of faithfulness even when all of the odds seem stacked up against you.
Speak up, even if your voice shakes.
Be generous with the wisdom you’ve gathered even when others seem more qualified.
Fill the pages of your journal the way you want to, not how you think you should.
Use bold, bright colors. Or paint it all black.
Say goodbye to holding back.

Do these things not because you have the answers. Instead, because you are choosing to live with an open heart. You are choosing to breathe deep, no matter what, and come alive right where you are. You were made to give your all, no matter your fears. No matter your uncertainties. And one day in the future, you will be so grateful that you chose to make the most of days like this. You will be so glad that you chose to be rooted and grounded in the present moment, even before you knew what was going to happen. And not because you had everything figured out, but because you knew without a doubt that there was grace to come alive and thrive here, no matter the wild of your unknowns.

Let today be filled with peace. Peace that says, “my soul will be unmoved, no matter what comes before me. My heart will still seek joy, no matter my uncertainty.” You are on a journey, and you are headed toward beautiful life-giving things.

Today you are free to make bold, courageous choices that speak to you where and who you’ve been called to be. (Excerpt from my app The Storyteller Co. - new weekly series starts today!)
