To all my retired friends out there: this season is a REAL transition. You are leaving old roles, and stepping into new ones. It’s possible because of this, the people in your life will see you differently. Maybe they don’t extend the invite anymore because you’re no longer a work colleague. Maybe you get NEW invites to things you were never able to attend. Whatever happens, take a deep breath. It’s going to be okay, you will adjust.

To all my empty nesters out there - I’ve been there! It is a lonely and strange season to navigate! The silence can feel overwhelming. But I promise you, YOU are good company, and YOU are what you’re looking for. Put forth the energy and effort to finding what you want and need during this new exciting chapter. It’s an opportunity to invest in yourself again!

My retired ladies. My over 60 gals. My technologically averse. Let me tell you - the world is not slowing down for you. The world is going to continue to evolve. It is entirely up to you how much you want to continue belonging and staying connected. But the truth is, if you don’t make the effort to learn certain technologies, you will be left out or left behind. Learning new things is great for your cognitive health, will boost your self confidence, and will give you a sense of belonging. So get that email. Have that grandkid teach you about social media - it’s time ladies!

For all my midlife mamas, empty nesters and retired ladies: it’s great to have a catch up with friends and cover all the bases. But if you’re finding the conversation repetitive or stale or focusing on the negative, you can always mix it up. Bring something inspiring, encouraging and positive to your conversations with friends. Ask new questions, get curious, get excited about the possibility of this new chapter of life together! And watch how you and your loved ones bloom in this season.

Haters are gonna hate okay? Retirement is YOUR time! It’s an exciting new chapter! And for anyone who tries to diminish that excitement, you tell them: retirement isn’t boring, working in stale and toxic environments is boring! There is nothing boring about freedom and time to rediscover who we are!

Retired folks listen up! The best way to show up in the places and spaces and relationships in your life is to come curious, open minded and full of questions. Don’t insert yourself with unwelcome advice. If someone needs your sage wisdom, trust that they will ask. Until then, come to the table curious and excited to learn.

I know there’s big changes happening. I know retirement can feel scary. I know our bodies ache and the kids aren’t calling you back and your midlife may not be what you’d imagined. It’s okay to feel all that - but you don’t want to wallow in it. You don’t want your pain and negativity to become your whole personality. This life is meant to be lived and loved to the fullest! You are in a new exciting season. You have the power to craft it, intentionally, however you choose.
