Today we were caught off guard. The wine cap mushrooms that we inoculated just two short months ago bore fruit! We enjoyed a beautiful breakfast this morning.

Oh how I love a successful propagation. ☺️ Meet Partridge Berry (Mitchella repens) You'll find her sprawled out in moist, rich forests just layin low in the dappled sunlight. Winter chill doesn't phase this little beauty. Her dark green leaves are a cheerful sight when there's not much else goin on.
She smells pretty good, for being such a tiny thing. Her two little flowers merge into one red berry. Isn't that cool? The berries have traditionally been used for women's reproductive health issues among other conditions.
I think she is amazing and I'm happy she's here!

Good Morning all you lovely people!! Its been a very busy Spring here at the farm, lots of additions and improvements and it's still very much a work in progress. Such is life though, right?? I can happily report that I've got many wonderful plants to offer and more coming soon. These are for the locals though because I don't trust myself to ship them out and be successful....yet!
These plants are holler grown and very hearty. Most can make a plant medicine, some can fill your tummy, and some are just plain pretty. Plants are individually priced and I don't have pics of all of them but I can send you information upon request.

We are excited to be a part of the Newport Farmer’s Market TN again this year and we look forward to serving our community. Vital Roots & Shoots will be at limited markets this year with some time constraints. We will definitely be at the opening day May 2nd and will post other dates as they approach. Newport Farmers Market 2026 season is coming soon!

We’re excited to announce a bigger and better season and now TWO market days each week! We are growing with 17 market vendors to date.

May 2 – October 24, 2026
Saturdays: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM City Hall parking lot, 300 E. Main Street.
Wednesdays: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM Old Newport Police Dept. parking lot 330 E. Main Street. Food trucks every Wednesday until 2:00 PM!

Come shop a wide variety of fresh produce, local honey, eggs, teas, local grown beef, baked goods, herbs, plants, cut flowers, candles, lotions, soaps & bathboms, handmade crafts & so much more.

Spend your day supporting local and enjoying everything our downtown has to offer!

Start your morning at the Newport Farmers Market browsing fresh goods from our local vendors. Then take a stroll through downtown Newport and enjoy our beautiful riverwalk. Grab a great cup of coffee from a local coffee shop to pair perfectly with those pastries from the market. Shop our unique local stores and discover hidden gems right here in downtown. Finish with lunch at one of our amazing local restaurants.
