DID YOU KNOW? ๐Ÿ’ก

Being an inclusive community doesnโ€™t require everyone to become a disability expert.

Sometimes it starts with:

๐Ÿ’œ Being patient when someone communicates differently.
๐Ÿ’œ Not judging behavior you donโ€™t understand.
๐Ÿ’œ Making room for different abilities.
๐Ÿ’œ Asking, โ€œHow can I help?โ€
๐Ÿ’œ Giving someone an opportunity instead of assuming they canโ€™t.

Small changes in how we respond to one another can make a BIG difference.

Thatโ€™s how we build community โ€” one ACT at a time. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ’œ A 30-SECOND COMMUNITY CHALLENGE ๐Ÿ’œ

This weekend, notice ONE way someone in our community is making life more accessible or inclusive.

Maybe itโ€™s a business being patient.
A kid including another kid.
A teacher adapting something.
A stranger showing kindness.
A workplace giving someone an opportunity.

See it? SAY IT. ๐Ÿ‘

Tag them or give them a shout-out below.

Those little ACTS matter.

One leg patient. Recovering patients. Patients that are prone to passing out. Physical therapy before returning straight to walking. Patients who could walk but are tied to bulky medical equipment can mount equipment to chair.

society has a invisible norm that asking questions on a subject that they have already categorized as simple is ... talking back, being a smart Alec,is rude ect.

The truth is when you take the symptoms of neurodivergence:
Lack of volume awareness(meaning inability to tell the tone and volume of their own voice)
Literal thinking: this could look like accuracy, correction hard truth, logic with out emotions, lacks theory of mind ( thinking for others perspective)
The need to close the loop- & understanding: our nervous system like certainty, understanding, and the known( its allow us to flow in life more then preform, or have skill regression later when the road map stop making sense) confusion, misunderstanding, not being able to connect the dots, having other pieces to the puzzle, can trigger fight and fight and keep her nervous system in a state of elevator stress, needing to be alert, using her pattern, recognition skills versus being at a rest state.

So all society is assuming--we're gathering information so things make sense in our head. Gathering the pieces of the puzzle, that allows us to move forward, Intake people into consideration who is misunderstanding later, versus rushing and just saying OK OK we understand, or instead of assuming. We are being thorough and gathering information.....

People perceive us in our motives, completely different.

What are somethings things that could change to fill this gap?
1. If you're offended when somebody ask questions.. first admit that to yourself.
2. Pause.-don't hear the tone or volume but hear/listen to the question.
3. Clarify: -are you asking questions for understanding?
Or to waste my time
-are you asking questions because something that's a big sense to u? Or Are you questioning my credibility?
4. Self aware: I may be taking the motive to your questions the wrong way, bare with me.
5. Breath: what part doesn't make sense to you? Or what part of what I said isn't clicking.? maybe I can explain it another way
6. I understand you have a lot of questions. But I actually need to get going. Can you write them down? Can you send them to me in a text? Can we pick a time that we discuss this later?

These are all things that could be used to diffuse the auto pilot offense.
