Meet Iris, Luna, and Spot, the three Dalmatians who joined us this weekend! 🐾🪻🌜🐶

Iris is 14 weeks old, Luna is 2.5 years old, and Spot is 5 years old, and all three have one big thing in common: they are deaf. Each of them has their own goals, and I am excited to get started. 🐕

For Iris and Spot, the first thing we are teaching is the e-collar as a communication tool. The tap works like calling their name or tapping them on the shoulder, and the goal is for them to look for me whenever they feel it. That is the foundation, and commands build from there. 💜

Luna has been through a lot in her short life and is still learning to trust people, so her journey starts with nervous system regulation. Once she feels safe, we will introduce the e-collar. Iris is a puppy, so her training also centers on socialization and exposure, and Spot's confidence will grow as he learns to communicate with humans. 🌟🐾

A dysregulated nervous system cannot learn, no matter how good the training method is. 🐾

This is nervous system regulation work, and it’s a piece most training programs skip entirely. When a dog is stuck in fight, flight, or shut down, commands don’t stick, because the brain simply is not in a state to absorb them. 🐕‍🦺

This work is part of what I bring into every session, alongside balanced training and hands-on bodywork. Helping a dog’s body and nervous system settle first is what makes the actual training stick long term. 💜

Before I train a single command, I check the body first. 🐾

This is range of motion testing, and it’s one of the most overlooked steps in dog training. If a dog is dealing with pain or physical restriction, no amount of command work is going to fix the behavior that pain is actually causing. 🐺

I’m certified in canine massage, myofascial release, and acupressure, and this kind of assessment is built into how I evaluate every dog before we even start training. Skipping this step means potentially training around a problem instead of solving it. 💜
