My name is Malanna Simmons and I am a licensed social worker in Pennsylvania and Michigan. I obtained my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Gender, Women, Sexuality Studies from the University of Minnesota and a Master's in Advanced Clinical Social Work from Walden University. I have certificates in a multitude of evidenced-based trauma, crisis, family, and life skill-building tre
atment interventions/practices. Throughout my career thus far, I have had the pleasure of working with children, adolescents, families, couples, and adults with a range of needs (i.e. overcoming trauma/traumatic experiences, crisis resolution, behavioral/cognitive adjustment, life skill building, college/professional preparation, substance use/abuse, general sound boarding for life reflection and evaluation, and so much more). I enjoy working with people and always feel honored that those I have worked with are allowing me the privilege to join them on their journey of self-empowerment and self-improvement. "Worldly", because I have worked with people from all backgrounds, cultures, ages, and walks of life to "nurture" their potential. It began back home in Minnesota where I helped my parents run a 14-person household and has continued with my migration to Pennsylvania where I have been fortunate enough to aide people across the social work spectrum. Now, I have begun the journey of "nurturing" my own little person; I am the mother of one beautiful baby boy that grows more with every passing moment. All of these experiences have taught me the foundational skills that I use in my profession today, which are: patience, the ability to listen, the understanding that listening is as paramount as speaking, the capabilities to be resourceful, valuing modesty and humility whilst still being confident and capable, and having faith in my skill-set while still being open to professionally growing and developing. Every encounter, no matter how big or small, can teach you something fundamental about yourself and we should always strive to improve upon ourselves, even if that is only marginally. I feel fortunate to have grown up with these skills because they have assisted me in providing adequate care for my clients and nurturing their individual goals towards personal, professional, and/or academic growth. We are all capable of achieving our hearts desires, sometimes we just need assistance in pulling those strengths out of us. I offer individual, family, couples, and group therapeutic services. I look forward to being apart of this new journey of self-discovery that you're venturing into.
