NEW YORKERS IN NYC - STOP DEED THEFT AND VOTE ON TUES. JUNE 23RD FOR CM OMAR HARDY, SAMANTHA JOHNSON, AND CANDACE NILES!
The Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations (BIBC) is proud to announce our endorsements of candidates Chief Minister Omar Hardy, Samantha Johnson, and Candace Niles, who have made their work known through their strong activism in The People’s Coalition to Stop Deed Theft in New York. Two of the candidates, Omar Hardy and Candace Niles, have their own personal experience with stopping deed theft, while Candidate Samantha Johnson, a resident of NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority) is sounding the alarm against the privatization of NYCHA, and predatory lending practices.
Deed theft, predatory lending, and the privatization of public assets allow parasitic capitalists to exploit and ethnically cleanse Black and Brown communities, which are the primary targets of these schemes. Since 2014, New York City alone has registered 3,500 deed theft complaints. And when many of the victims of deed theft sought help, they discovered that the politicians had sold out and that the police, the judges, and the state were weaponized against them to facilitate the deed thieves. Oftentimes the police use force to remove people from their homes to which they are the legitimate owners.
But instead of succumbing to the corruption of the state, the people have instead chosen to rise up, organize and fight back! The candidates we have endorsed are doing just that; they have made a commitment to stand with their communities and run for office to end these abuses. And it is imperative that the people stand with them by voting them into office.
Upon each candidate's acceptance of the entire BIBC 19 Point Platform for Black Self Determination, and the completion of the interview process, the BIBC Steering Committee unanimously agreed to endorse all three candidates and to put the full support of the Coalition, which consists of organizations and individual members throughout the country and internationally, behind them. We stand united with them in their fight to stand up against the oppression and exploitation of our people and to fight against the capitalist vultures who are stealing our homes and intergenerational wealth. We call on all New Yorkers to support them.
