Anyone Can Move

Anyone Can Move ACM is directed by Judith Sachs, certified Dance and Balance teacher in Philadephia PA

Once you’ve assessed yourself for injuries and gotten yourself onto one hip in a half seated position, you have a few options for getting up.

Here, Judith Sachs demonstrates how to get up if your knees are okay - using momentum to get into a quadruped position, then bringing one foot forward, and returning to standing. Having a plan and practicing these skills can make all the difference after a fall.

Living with Parkinson’s disease can bring unique challenges to balance, mobility, and confidence. That’s why we spend time practicing real-world skills that matter.

During our Parkinson’s Movement Workshop at CrushPD Fitness in Lancaster, PA, participants worked on balance training, safe falling techniques, and floor recovery strategies. Knowing how to respond after a fall can help reduce fear and empower people to stay active and engaged in the activities they love.

What a wonderful day of movement, learning, and connection at our Parkinson’s Movement Workshop at CrushPD Fitness in Lancaster PA last week!

Together, we explored balance, falls and recovery strategies, turning techniques, and the power of dance and movement to support everyday life with Parkinson’s. Most importantly, we shared encouragement, laughter, and the reminder that movement is always possible.

I’m grateful to everyone who participated, asked questions, practiced new skills, and embraced the joy of moving together. Thank you to the care partners who joined us and to CrushPD Fitness for hosting such a welcoming event.

What comes after the Self Body Scan?

In this video, Judith Sachs demonstrates the next step in getting up safely after a fall: rolling onto your hip and moving into a half-seated position. This position allows you to pause and reassess how you’re feeling after a fall. It also creates a safer opportunity for a caregiver or bystander to provide assistance if needed, reducing the risk of further injury from attempting to stand too quickly.

What is the first thing you should do after a fall?

In this video, Judith Sachs introduces the concept of a Self Body Scan—a simple but powerful practice to assess yourself before attempting to get up. Taking a few moments to check for pain, injury, dizziness, or other warning signs can help prevent further harm, especially when well-meaning family members or bystanders rush to help you stand too soon.
