HEALING SPICES. I grew up, just like most of us from the Midwest, thinking that spices were only to add flavor to food. Ayurveda taught me that spices not only flavor food, but truly are potent medicine!

Everyone can learn simple ways that the spices in your kitchen pantry can be used to help digest the food you eat, as well as help balance doshas. In the fall season, the airy Vata Dosha is aggravated and can be balanced by warming, moist spices like cumin, coriander, nutmeg and cinnamon. As we flow into late winter/early spring, Kapha Dosha is aggravated and needs hotter spices like black pepper, ginger and cayenne. In summertime the fiery Pitta Dosha is in its aggravated state and needs cooling spices such as cardamom, fennel and mint.
I like to keep a pretty spice container, or masala dabba by the stove so that I can simply reach in and “add a pinch of this and pinch of that” while preparing meals. This way, it’s easy to have the spices close at hand instead of looking through sealed jars in the spice cabinet. I found the one in this photo in a market in India, but I think it would be fun to come up with beautiful and unique spice containers.

From Sandey Tenuto- One of my dearest friends from the yoga community just released her newest book, Graceful Agent the Ayurveda Way 🌿✨

Not only is she my beloved friend, she’s also a true teacher and guide when it comes to health and natural healing. She gives from the heart, deeply listens, and pours love into the care of others.

I had the honor of taking the photos for this beautiful book, and witnessing her vision come to life was such a gift. Her presence radiates through every page.

This new book is an extension of her spirit—graceful, wise, and healing.

Her past books have been such treasures, and this one is no different. If you’re on a wellness journey or simply curious about Ayurveda, this is a must-have for your collection. Link in bio.

So proud of you, beautiful and luminous soul 💚
