Yes, snowball fights are technically illegal in Aspen.
City of Aspen Municipal Code Sec. 15.04.210 — throwing snowballs at any building, vehicle, or person is banned. It's part of the city's anti-missile law.
In a ski town with 200+ inches of snow a year, you can't legally throw it.
Why? Property damage, injury liability, and ice-filled snowballs. The law is rarely enforced unless someone gets hurt or property is damaged, but it's still on the books.
Aspen isn't alone. Severance banned all snowballs until 2018. Boulder bans throwing snowballs under § 5-6-9(a).
