Why does the shampoo at the salon feel that good? Rayn Fenty, founder of LymphRehab, has an answer.

A proper scalp massage works the lymph node regions around the head, especially right behind the occipital ridge at the base of the skull. Her advice: when you wash your hair, slow down and really massage the scalp. One of the easiest ways to support drainage without adding a minute to your day.

How do sleep and the lymphatic system relate to brain health? This one is personal: my father has Alzheimer's disease.

As we learn more about dementia risk, the conversation keeps coming back to healthspan, not just lifespan, and to the daily basics that protect the brain over decades. Sleep leads that list, because sleep is when much of the brain's cleaning happens, clearing proteins through the brain's own drainage pathways.

From my conversation with Rayn Fenty, founder of LymphRehab.

Something worth knowing about, from Rayn Fenty, founder of LymphRehab.

Her nonprofit offers three no-cost sessions, with real education included, for people at risk of or living with lymphedema after breast cancer, the road she walked herself. Private clients can book too, and a portion of proceeds helps fund that free care.

A caution from Rayn Fenty, founder of LymphRehab, worth knowing before you shop for a compression device online.

Plenty of products borrow the word lymphatic on the label, including the low-cost compression boots sold online. Her point: the lymphatic system moves in one direction only, so a device that compresses in the wrong sequence is not actually supporting lymphatic flow, whatever the label says.

So before you spend your money on one, make sure it actually compresses in the right direction.

Meet the guest behind this series: Rayn Fenty, founder of LymphRehab.

Certified lymphedema therapist. Scar and lymphatic specialist. Yoga instructor. And an 8-year breast cancer survivor, which is what pulled her so deep into lymphatic work in the first place, with scar therapy growing into a major part of it.

Formal training plus lived experience is a rare combination, and it is exactly why I wanted her voice on this channel.

A tiny habit from Rayn Fenty, founder of LymphRehab, that costs zero extra minutes.

While you are washing up or putting on lotion, pause at the bendy spots: elbows, behind the knees, the creases where lymph nodes cluster, and massage there for a few seconds before moving on. Attaching the habit to something you already do every day is what makes it stick.

These small habits really do add up over time.
