š„¤Want to make kombucha at home?! š¾
Itās simpler than you think! Try it yourself and let me know if you like it! š
Recipe: for 1 gallon of tea
Make tea (2 teabags per quart of water)
Bring to a boil 4 quarts water
Add 8 tea bags ( can be green tea or black tea but it must be fully caffeinated. We like regular Lipton black tea)
Steep tea 10-15 minutes
Add 1 cup sugar
Make sure it is fully dissolved
Let the tea cool down to 97 degrees or cooler (if itās to hot it will kill the kombucha scoby)
Pour cooled tea into a clean Glass container. Leave enough space to hold the kombucha starter and scoby mother
Add in 1 cup kombucha starter/scoby and add pellicle to the top. Make sure the white side is facing up
Cover the top of container with lid or cloth and rubber bands. Make sure flies can not get in it
Let it grow
Warmer temps will let it grow faster
Ferment for minimum 2 weeks. The longer it sits the stronger the kombucha will be
When fermentation is done. Add 2 shot glasses full of any juice of your choosing to a bottle. Fill the rest of the bottle with kombucha and let it ferment an additional 3-5 days. The longer it sits the more carbonated it gets. We like 5 extra days before we put it in the fridge. Then itās ready to drink! Itās also ready right after the initial fermentation but this second fermentation allows you to flavor it if you like.
Start over!
You now have kombucha. Keep making tea and fermenting for a great soda alternative!
