🌿 From Garden to Spice Jar 🌿
One of my favorite summer traditions is harvesting and drying fresh oregano from the garden.
After harvesting, I rinse it well, allow it to dry, hang it in small bundles, and then crumble the leaves into jars once fully dried.
It's a simple way to preserve the flavors of summer and enjoy homegrown herbs all year long. 🫙✨

🌼 Chamomile is blooming in the garden!

Known for its delicate daisy-like flowers and sweet, apple-like fragrance, chamomile has been enjoyed for centuries in teas and herbal preparations.

These tiny blooms may not look like much, but they brew a delicious tea! To harvest, cut the stems just below the flowers, place the flowers in a single layer on a flat surface, and allow them to dry completely. Once dry, store them in an airtight jar for future use.

Do you grow chamomile or enjoy chamomile tea?

🌼 I'd love to hear how you use it.

🌶️ Looking to add something new to your appetizer lineup?

Muhammara is a flavorful dip that originated in Syria and remains a popular part of Mediterranean cuisine. Made with roasted red peppers, walnuts, and a few specialty ingredients, it delivers a delicious balance of smoky, sweet, and savory flavors.

If you enjoy exploring new foods, consider adding pomegranate molasses and Aleppo pepper to your shopping list. These pantry staples bring bold flavor to many Mediterranean dishes and keep well until you're ready to use them.

Have you ever tried Muhammara?

🌿 Today in our Wellness Support Group, we discussed transitions.

Whether it's retirement, graduation, becoming an empty nester, or another major life change, transitions often disrupt the routines that once supported our health and well-being.

Many people look forward to having more free time, but retirement can also bring unexpected challenges. Without the structure of a work schedule, healthy habits such as meal planning, physical activity, social connection, and self-care can sometimes become less consistent.

Many wellness challenges aren't really about food—they're about navigating change. When life changes, our routines may need to change too.

Just as a garden changes throughout the season, our wellness journey continues to evolve. The key isn't holding on to old routines—it's creating new ones that support where we are today.

Growth doesn't stop because one season ends. It simply looks different in the next season.

💚 What transition has had the biggest impact on your wellness journey?

Dandelion greens are one of those overlooked foods that have been enjoyed for generations. I recently harvested these fresh from my garden and prepared them simply with lemon juice and olive oil, allowing their natural flavor to shine.

While known for their slightly bitter taste, dandelion greens are packed with nutrition, including vitamins A, C, and K. Pairing them with acid and healthy fats helps balance their flavor and makes them a delicious addition to a Mediterranean-inspired meal.

One of the simple joys of this season is harvesting fresh lettuce straight from the garden 🌿(Or Your Local Farmer’s Market)

To keep homegrown lettuce crisp and fresh, I like to cut the outer leaves first while leaving the plant as intact as possible so it can continue producing. After harvesting, fully submerge and rinse the lettuce three times, changing the water each time until it runs clean.

Once washed, dry thoroughly using a salad spinner or colander, then store in the refrigerator in a plastic bag with a dry paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Properly stored, fresh garden lettuce can stay crisp for up to a week.

One of the benefits of growing your own produce is freshness—your lettuce has not been harvested days earlier, transported, or sitting in storage before reaching your kitchen. 🌱💚

We made delicious cookies by modifying some traditional baking ingredients and incorporating avocado, chia seeds, h**p seeds, and roasted sunflower seeds. The result was a flavorful cookie with significantly less sugar, fewer calories, and healthier fats than traditional chocolate chip cookies—while still tasting like a treat.
Small ingredient changes can add more fiber, healthy fats, and nutrients while keeping recipes approachable and satisfying. Healthy eating does not have to mean giving up the foods you enjoy. 💚

Curious about making pasta puttanesca but intimidated by anchovies? 🍝🌿
Yesterday’s cooking class focused on how simple pantry ingredients like anchovies, capers, crushed tomatoes, garlic, and olive oil can create bold Mediterranean-inspired flavor in very little time. The anchovies melt right into the sauce, adding a rich savory depth without tasting “fishy.”
This is the kind of meal that comes together quickly for a busy weeknight dinner—and you may already have many of the ingredients in your pantry.
