Heartland’s Summer Camp is in full swing, and we’ve already had so much fun!

Curious what type of clients we accept here at Heartland? 🤔

Two of the main things we take a look at are a client’s ability to self-care and their level of behaviors to make sure we can provide the best environment and support possible for them.

Each client begins with an individualized plan tailored to their specific needs, goals, strengths, and areas where they may need additional support. Our goal is to meet every individual where they are and help them continue building confidence, independence, life skills, and meaningful relationships in a safe and encouraging environment. 🌟

One of the most important things Adnan says his experience raising a child with autism has taught him is the importance of empathy, encouragement, and making sure your child always feels supported no matter what.

Children and young adults with autism deserve to feel proud of who they are and confident knowing the people around them are there to support, guide, and believe in them through every stage of life. Something as simple as showing patience, speaking with kindness, and never making them feel embarrassed or ashamed in front of others can make a lasting impact on their confidence and emotional well-being.

At Heartland, this is something we try to incorporate into everything we do. We strive to create an environment where individuals feel safe, understood, respected, and genuinely cared for. Building trust and confidence is just as important as teaching life skills because when someone feels accepted and supported, they’re able to grow in incredible ways. 💙

We’re a little over one week away from the start of our Summer Camp designed for young adults with disabilities! ☀️

This summer, we’re looking forward to 9 weeks filled with fun, growth, learning, and meaningful experiences for the individuals we serve.

Each week will feature a different theme with activities focused on things like cooking, creativity, social skills, independent living, functional learning, and real-life application skills that help build confidence beyond the classroom.

Our structured day program is designed to help clients continue developing important life skills while staying engaged, active, and connected throughout the summer in a safe and supportive environment. We also know how important consistency and routine can be for both clients and families, which is why our program is built to provide structure families can count on all summer long. 💙

This is also a great opportunity for families to experience Heartland and see if it could be a good fit for their loved one! We offer a more permanent program outside of our summer camps as well, and we would love the opportunity to continue supporting your family beyond the summer months.

Being involved in the local community means everything to us because the families we serve are more than just clients to us, they’re relationships we truly care about. 💙

At Heartland Academy, we provide support, life skills training, and individualized programs for children and adults with autism and other disabilities in a safe, encouraging, and community-focused environment. Our goal is to help every individual continue growing, building confidence, and reaching their full potential.

We believe it’s important to show up, stay connected, and be involved in the communities surrounding individuals with disabilities.

Whether it’s attending events, supporting local organizations, meeting families, or simply being present, we want people to know they have a team in their corner that genuinely cares.

We’re grateful for every family, caregiver, staff member, and community partner who continues to support this mission alongside us.

When Adnan and Salma’s son was just 3.5 years old, he was diagnosed with autism. Over the last 24 years, their journey as parents has shaped so much of the heart behind Heartland Academy.

Through raising their son, they’ve experienced firsthand how often autistic individuals can be misunderstood or underestimated simply because they communicate differently or see the world in their own way. That personal experience has played a huge role in the care, training, and support systems we’ve built here at Heartland.

One thing Adnan and Salma have always believed is that autistic children and adults are far more capable than many people realize. Every individual has strengths, potential, and a purpose, and our goal is to help encourage that growth in a supportive environment where they feel seen, understood, and valued.

At Heartland, we hope every client continues building confidence, independence, life skills, and opportunities that help them reach their fullest potential!

What kind of safety precautions do we take here at Heartland for clients and our staff?

At Heartland Academy, creating a safe and supportive environment for both clients and staff is one of our highest priorities. From structured routines and hands-on supervision to experienced instructors and individualized support, every part of our program is designed with safety, comfort, and care in mind.

We have cameras throughout the facility, provide specialized training for our staff, and take the time to truly understand each client’s individual support needs. Our team continuously works to refine and adapt those support systems within our center so clients can learn, grow, and build confidence in an environment where they feel safe, understood, and supported. 💙
