The Loop. The Gap. The Ghost.

Those are three different reasons clients stay stuck: a repeating pattern that auto-runs (the Loop), insight that doesn’t translate into behavior change (the Gap), and an old, unseen belief still steering choices (the Ghost).

One practical, trauma‑informed move that reaches all three is working at the subconscious level with a staged approach: first stabilize nervous system safety, then access the memory or belief beneath the symptom, gently shift the meaning or response, and finally integrate that new experience into everyday choices. That sequence—safety, access, shift, integrate—helps interrupt the Loop, close the Gap, and quiet the Ghost.

Three clinical lenses that help you locate where a client's pattern actually began—and how to work with it.

Teaching point: Start at the symptom (the repeating experience), invite the client's story about when and how it first showed up, then carefully explore possible sources. Understanding a pattern intellectually rarely changes the habit — the subconscious does. Insight lives in the thinking mind; behavior lives underneath it.

One teaching point: when someone “gets” why they repeat a pattern, that insight sits in the Gap. The Loop — the automatic trigger-response — keeps running unless we access the subconscious and interrupt the Ghost: the old belief or felt truth driving the habit. Hypnotherapy works by stabilizing safety, accessing the subconscious, shifting the old program, and helping the client integrate that shift into everyday choices.
