“NORMAL” LAB RANGES CAN CHANGE OVER TIME.

Amy explains why a lab result being inside the reference range doesn’t necessarily tell the entire story.

Reference ranges are generally built from data collected across a population—and as that population changes over time, the ranges used to interpret results can change too.

That’s especially important when talking about things like testosterone, where age, body composition, health conditions, medications, and other factors can all influence levels.

Amy also discusses possible environmental factors being studied in relation to hormone health, including chemical exposures and microplastics—but those connections are still an evolving area of research.

The takeaway?

Your health shouldn’t be evaluated from one number alone.

Symptoms, medical history, trends in your lab work, and your individual health all matter when determining what a result actually means for you.

“I HAVEN’T GROWN A P***S YET.” 😂

Amy and Matt have a little fun with one of the biggest fears they hear from women when testosterone comes up:
“Am I going to start looking like a man?”

The reality is more nuanced. Testosterone is a hormone women naturally produce, and when therapy is appropriate, the goal is individualized dosing and careful monitoring, not pushing testosterone as high as possible.

Androgen-related side effects can occur, especially when levels are too high, which is why symptoms and lab work need to be monitored by a qualified provider.

Amy’s point?

Don’t let the wildest thing you saw on social media be your entire education on women’s testosterone. 😂

Ask questions. Understand the risks and benefits. And make decisions based on your health, not internet horror stories.

CHRONIC STRESS ISN’T JUST WHAT’S ON YOUR CALENDAR.

Matt explains that when most of us think about stress, we think about deadlines, work, places to be, kids, grandkids, and everything else competing for our attention.

But there’s another side to the conversation:

Physiologic stress—the stress your body can experience internally over time.

When that stress becomes chronic, it can affect how you feel day to day, including things like energy, mood, and overall well-being.

That’s why constantly feeling exhausted or unlike yourself shouldn’t always be dismissed as:

“I’m just stressed.”

Sometimes it’s worth stepping back and looking at the bigger picture of what your body may be dealing with.

Stress isn’t only something you feel mentally. Your body responds to it too.

WHO ACTUALLY NEEDS TRT?

Amy and Matt talk about one of the biggest mistakes people can make when it comes to testosterone:

Trying to diagnose themselves from what they see online.

Social media, commercials, and other people’s experiences can make TRT sound like the answer for everyone—but whether testosterone therapy is appropriate should come down to you, not an algorithm.

Your symptoms, lab results, medical history, age, fertility goals, risk factors, and overall health all matter when deciding what treatment, if any, makes sense.

That’s why Matt’s message is simple:

Don’t let social media make the diagnosis for you. Work with a provider who takes the time to understand the whole picture.

TRT can be helpful for appropriately evaluated patients, but it isn’t something everyone needs.

“I HAD ZERO S*X DRIVE.”

Amy opens up about something a lot of women quietly struggle with: losing their libido and no longer feeling like themselves.

After having her baby, she says her s*x drive was essentially nonexistent—and for a long time, she assumed that was simply something she had to live with.

But as she began paying more attention to her hormone health and overall well-being, her experience changed.

Now in her 40s, Amy says she feels more like herself again—and that this part of her life is better than it was when she was younger.

Her story is personal, and every woman’s situation is different. Changes in libido can have many causes, which is why symptoms, medical history, medications, relationships, and hormone health may all deserve consideration.

A low s*x drive doesn’t have to be something you’re embarrassed to talk about.

WHEN YOU KNOW SOMETHING FEELS OFF… BUT YOUR LABS SAY “NORMAL.” 😂

You explain the fatigue, brain fog, low energy, mood changes, or just feeling unlike yourself…
And then hear:

“Your labs look fine. See you next year.”

Cue immense disappointment. 😭

All jokes aside, a lab result can be an important part of the picture—but a number by itself doesn’t always explain how someone is feeling.

At Optimal Hormones Plus, the goal is to look at your symptoms, health history, lab trends, and the bigger picture together.

Because sometimes “within range” and “I feel great” aren’t the same conversation.

And hopefully one day you’ll thank us. 😂

SOMETIMES OPTIMIZING YOUR HEALTH MEANS GOING AGAINST THE GRAIN.

Amy and Matt talk about why conversations around hormones, healthy aging, and proactive healthcare can sometimes challenge what people have been taught to accept as “normal.”

Just because something becomes common as we get older doesn’t automatically mean we should stop asking questions about it.

For Matt and Amy, the goal is not chasing perfection or promising a certain outcome.

It’s looking at the individual, understanding what may be affecting how they feel, and asking:

“What can we do to help you live your best life?”

That approach might ruffle a few feathers—but helping people become more involved in their own health is a conversation worth having.

10/09/2026

IT’S OFFICIALLY FALL… SO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. 🍂😂

The leaves start changing, the weather cools down, pumpkin spice comes back…
and apparently it’s time to optimize your hormones. 😎

Seasonal reminder: if you’ve been dealing with changes in energy, sleep, mood, strength, libido, or just not feeling like yourself, don’t automatically brush it off.

Your health deserves attention in every season. 🍁
