Bruce Lee was a keen student of both and Taoism, and also Sun Tzu’s “Art of War”… he also knew and understood the value of detachment in daily life… so the big question, what’s the best way to achieve a state of calm, serene detachment in the midst of this hectic life that we are often thrown into?
To me, the most effective tool for achieving detachment is to take an indirect path to its fulfilment. Too often we try to achieve a goal directly, whereas often the best route is the “sly-cunning” route.
What I mean by this is if you take Sun Tzu’s “Art of War” and you start applying its principles, it’s strategies and tactics in your life, by default you instantly become much more detached from the events occurring. That’s because you are seeing them from a totally different perspective.
Detachment is something you achieve by not trying to be detached, but by seeing the world differently.
In my experience attempts to artificially create it directly never work… you need to change the way you think and to approach life as a game to be played, and to be enjoyed.
