Uniting Pet and Human Research for a Cure®

At Animal Cancer Foundation ("ACF") a 501(c)(3) organization, we are singularly focused on selecting the best early-stage comparative oncology research to improve cancer outcomes for people and pets. At ACF, we believe that comparative oncology is the most under-utilized and most promising research model to increase knowledge of cancer as a disease, allo

w development of basic science data that warrants additional investment from large funders, and catalyzes successful development of new therapies for both veterinary and human patients. We provide research grants to enable comparative oncologists to build scientific evidence, conduct robust clinical trials, and generate cancer genomic datasets to integrate into the human cancer drug development pipeline. We ensure through rigorous grant-funding parameters that ACF funded research is best-in-field early development that will be poised to attract government and industry funding and encourage open share of discovery with all researchers.

Behind every breakthrough is a community willing to help move research forward.

At Animal Cancer Foundation, sponsors play an important role in advancing comparative oncology research focused on improving outcomes for both pets and people.

Partnerships like these help support innovation, strengthen community impact, and create meaningful opportunities for businesses to be part of something bigger than themselves.

Because progress in cancer research happens when people, organizations, and communities work together. 💛

Cancer in pets is more common than many people realize — and sometimes the signs are easy to miss.

Changes in appetite, energy, breathing, mobility, or behavior may seem small at first, but paying attention and acting early can make a meaningful difference for the pets we love.

One of the most important lessons in pet cancer awareness is that no family should feel like they have to navigate a diagnosis alone. Education, trusted resources, research, and open conversations help pet parents feel more informed and supported every step of the way.

At ACF, we’re committed to advancing comparative oncology research that helps improve outcomes for pets while also contributing to breakthroughs that may benefit people too.

We hope this post encourages more awareness, more conversations, and more compassion for the animals and families affected by cancer every day. 🐾

Most of us know someone, human or animal, whose life has been touched by cancer.

What many people don’t realize is that cancer research in pets can also help advance treatments for people. The breakthroughs happening in veterinary oncology don’t just help dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives — they can contribute to discoveries that benefit entire families and communities.

That’s why the work of Animal Cancer Foundation matters right here in Port Washington and beyond. It’s about giving hope to pet owners, supporting life-saving research, and helping create a future where better treatments are possible for everyone.

We hope this Q&A helps shine a light on the connection between animal and human cancer research — and why continued awareness and support matter so much. 💙

Sometimes it starts with little things.

Maybe your furry best friend is slowing down a bit on walks. Sleeping more than usual. Eating a little less. Maybe they just don’t seem quite like themselves lately.

It’s easy to brush those changes off as aging or a temporary phase. Sometimes they are. But sometimes, subtle changes can be early warning signs of something more serious.

Possible warning signs of cancer in dogs can include:
• Lumps or bumps
• Weight loss
• Loss of appetite
• Difficulty eating or swallowing
• Bleeding or discharge
• Sores that don’t heal
• Bad odor
• Lack of energy
• Difficulty breathing
• Lameness
• Straining to urinate or defecate

Not every symptom means cancer, but early detection can make a difference.

You know your pet better than anyone. If something feels off, trust your instincts and talk with your veterinarian. 💚
