Healthy Portland #9 📍Sawyer’s Butcher + Deli
There’s been a lot of conversation around bringing more affordable meat into the U.S. from abroad. And while affordability matters, it also brings up something I think we should be talking about more: do we actually know where our meat comes from?
How was the animal raised? What was it fed? How was the meat processed? What standards were followed?
We don’t always have those answers.
Which makes places like Sawyer’s feel especially important. Buying local isn’t possible for everyone or every purchase, but when it is, there’s something valuable about being closer to the source of our food and being able to ask those questions.
I’m so excited to have Sawyer’s Butcher + Deli in the Old Port, and equally excited for their sandwiches made with house-made deli meats. The butcher counter is beautiful, the shelves have lots of fun finds, and it feels like such a good addition to Portland.
