Local food through a wellness lens.

One of the most common questions I get asked is: “Where do you go when you want something healthy in Portland?”

So this summer, I’m creating Healthy Portland, a weekly series highlighting restaurants, meals, and local finds that I’m loving right now.

Every Wednesday, I’ll share a dish or restaurant/cafe that I’ve been vibing with!

A reminder that health is personal, nuanced, and ever-evolving. These recommendations come from my own perspective and what feels good to me. When I’m looking at a meal, I usually ask myself three things:

• What is the balance of macronutrients?
• Are the ingredients high quality?
• Does it bring me joy?

Through meaningful conversation, movement, reflection, and connection, we’ll explorelisten inward and reconnect with the woman beneath the roles, responsibilities, and expectations.

☀️ Midsummer Sauna + Garden Gathering
June 19 | 6 - 8:30
A celebration of the season and all the energy, warmth, and aliveness that comes with it. We’ll begin with movement to awaken the body before settling into an evening of sauna, cold plunge, seasonal refreshments, creativity, relaxation, and connection. You’ll also have access to a seasonal bloom bar where you can create your own bouquet or flower crown to bring a little of the season home with you.

Join CTW for a Midsummer Sauna & Garden Gathering, an evening inspired by the energy of the summer solstice!

We’ll begin with lively, feel-good movement to build warmth and open the body. From there, the evening opens into a relaxed garden-party atmosphere with sauna, cold plunge, seasonal refreshments, conversation, and space to move through the experience at your own pace.

You’ll also have access to our seasonal bloom bar, featuring fresh flowers, herbs, and greenery to create your own midsummer bouquet, floral hoop, or flower crown and bring a little of the season home with you.

Expect warmth, movement, cooling, connection, fresh summer flavors, flowers hanging overhead, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer.

Sometimes the work is sitting with an elderly woman who has been told to buy skim milk and low fat/non-fat everything for the last 60 years.

Slowly helping her relearn that food can nourish her, support her strength, and help her feel more resilient.

Personal training is so much more than workouts when you deeply care about your clients.

Sometimes it means bringing the foods that feel scary but are also deeply nourishing and sitting beside someone as they slowly learn to trust and try new things again.

After decades of dieting culture, “healthy” can feel deeply attached to restriction, even when the body is asking for more support.

More movement often means needing:more nourishmentmore proteinmore energymore permission to eat enough

This is one of the reasons I believe it can be so helpful to work with someone who understands both movement and nutrition, but also how to communicate change in a supportive and realistic way.

It’s never too late to build new systems of care for yourself 🤍
