☀️ What does Ayurveda recommend eating in June?

As spring transitions into summer, the qualities of heat begin to increase in both nature and the body. Ayurveda encourages choosing foods that are naturally cooling, hydrating, and easy to digest to help maintain balance during this seasonal shift.

Some favorite foods for June include:
🌿 Cucumbers
🍉 Watermelon
🥥 Coconut
🍇 Sweet grapes
🫐 Seasonal berries
🥒 Zucchini + summer squash
🥬 Leafy greens
🌾 Basmati rice
🫘 Mung dal
🌱 Cooling herbs like cilantro, mint, and fennel

Rather than following a strict diet, Ayurveda teaches us to observe nature and allow our food choices to change with the seasons.

What seasonal foods are you enjoying right now?

Christine O'Hara

Please welcome Christine O’Hara to team Altitude!! Christine is a yoga practitioner and guide with a dedication and passion to the cultivation of mindfulness, conscious creation and self realization. Her message to fellow practitioners is to come home to yourself and the wisdom that blossoms within. In her free time she enjoys spending time in nature, hiking with her dogs, dancing under the full moon, and reveling in the experience and magic of the ordinariness of the world.

She will be teaching the Strong & Steady Flow class, which is a 60 minute slow vinyasa practice recommended for strong beginner/intermediate level - however all levels are welcome and modifications are provided. Each month a sequence will be refined through repetition & learn bites of mythology and symbolism behind a chosen pose inspiring the sequence. This practice is tailored to both restore and challenge.

The Transition Into Summer in Ayurveda

As spring gives way to summer, Ayurveda describes a natural shift into Pitta season—a time when heat, intensity, and transformation increase in both nature and the body.

You may begin to notice subtle changes: feeling warmer, stronger digestion, shifts in mood, or a natural pull toward lighter, cooling foods. These are gentle signals from the body to adjust with the season.

Rather than making drastic changes, Ayurveda encourages small, supportive shifts:

🥒 Favor cooling, light foods
💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day
🌤 Avoid overheating and excess midday sun
🧘 Slow your pace when possible
🌸 Support digestion with simple, seasonal meals

🌿 The reminder:
Balance is not about restriction—it’s about aligning with the rhythm of nature.

👉 What shifts are you noticing as we move into summer? This is exactly the kind of seasonal awareness explored in Ayurvedic study and practice.
