It’s Thursday morning. It’s already hot as... my coffee is almost gone, and I’m trying to find the motivation to finally move this wheelbarrow that’s been sitting here for a week.

So far I’ve made excellent progress on the coffee.

And yes, I parked it directly in front of the steps SO I WOULD HAVE TO MOVE IT.

I haven’t felt much like posting lately.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been working through new licensing requirements, replacing labels, updating the website and making changes to a business I’ve spent eight years building.

The hardest part hasn’t been the new sink, the paperwork or even the expense of replacing labels. It’s feeling as though the way I communicate has been stripped from me.

For eight years, I’ve taught people about ingredients, explained why I chose them and shared what made each product special. Now I find myself second guessing every sentence. What am I permitted to say? How am I allowed to describe something? Will perfectly ordinary words cause another problem?

It’s hard to create content when the regulations leave so little room for an herbalist to actually talk about herbs. I can discuss an ingredient’s color, scent and texture, but the moment I explain why it has been traditionally used or why someone might choose it, those words can be treated as a claim. After eight years of educating people, being reduced to describing everything as merely "moisturizing" feels less like compliance and more like being stripped of the language my work is built upon.

Old City isn’t going anywhere. I’m still working, still creating and still moving forward. I’m just doing it a little more quietly while I find my voice again.
