Do you have a picky eater? 🍎🥕
Whenever possible, eat family meals together and model healthy, adventurous eating habits. Children often watch and adopt behaviors from parents, older siblings, and peers. When the family enjoys well-balanced meals that include fruits and vegetables, children are more likely to do the same. And when parents are willing to try new foods, kids often follow their lead!
✅ Follow regular, structured meal and snack times. Make it a rule that everyone sits at the table free from distractions and devices.
✅ Let your child choose what and how much to eat from the foods offered. Avoid preparing separate meals or snacks if they refuse to eat. Instead, include at least one food they already enjoy at each meal or snack.
✅ Allow them to reject a food, but continue offering it again later. It can take 15–20 exposures before a child learns to like a new food. Repeated exposure can turn a rejected food into a future favorite.
✅ Involve children in selecting, growing, and preparing foods. The more engaged they are, the more likely they are to eventually try them.
✅ Encourage curiosity about food, nutrition, farming, and cooking. Many children become interested in tasting foods once they learn more about where they come from and how they're prepared.
Patience and consistency go a long way. Small steps today can help build healthy eating habits for a lifetime! ❤️
Recognizing that pickiness is normal and usually short-lived in children can make mealtimes more enjoyable. A low-key approach to picky eating can help kids come around and try a wider variety of foods. Here are some basic strategies to try.
