Check out this new publication!! They cite OUR publication, that so many of YOU participated in the research for!!! (You guys all helped make this possible!!!!)

One of the biggest takeaways from the newly published U.S. CHS prevalence study is this:

CHS appears to be far more common — and far more complex — than many people previously believed.

In one of the largest CHS studies to date, researchers found that approximately 6% of cannabis users reported CHS symptoms within the past year. The study also identified major risk factors, including:

• Heavy/frequent cannabis use
• Cannabis concentrates
• Edibles
• High-potency THC products
• Alcohol use
• Certain mental health conditions
• Younger age groups

One especially important finding:
Frequent use of concentrates and edibles was associated with a higher likelihood of CHS, while traditional flower use showed lower association comparatively.

The study also reinforced what many in the CHS recovery community have been saying for years:
CHS is real, often underdiagnosed, frequently misunderstood, and many sufferers are initially told it’s “just anxiety,” cyclic vomiting syndrome, or unrelated GI issues.

Another major point:
The researchers found that legalization itself was NOT the strongest predictor of CHS — instead, the biggest factors were heavy use patterns and high-potency product exposure.

This study also cites prior CHS research that I was personally involved in authoring, which makes this especially meaningful to me!! 💜💜 Seeing the medical community continue to recognize and investigate CHS on a larger scale is something many of us have worked hard for over the years.

Awareness matters. Education matters. And most importantly, patients deserve to be believed.

For anyone struggling right now: you are not crazy, you are not alone, and recovery IS possible. ❤️

What helps with CHS?
(Updated version)

For those of you just joining us that need the quick list:

🛑 You need to stop using ALL cannabinoids, that includes edibles, CBD oils and topicals. Continued use will only prolong symptoms.

♨️Heating:

Heat seems to alleviate MOST people’s symptoms. Hot showers, heating pads, blow driers, rice in a sock put into a microwave, hot tea with ginger and honey, Capsaicin cream (warning below). Some people don’t do well with the heat, and freezing cold showers actually help them. The point is to shock the system!

🤢Nausea Management:

H1 & H2 blockers TOGETHER!! This means the antacid (it’s actually an antihistamine) PEPCID (not a PPI, no prescription required!) taken together with an allergy pill (Claritin, Zyrtec, or Allegra)!! This combination works for MANY people for symptom relief during the initial 90 day recovery period! Many people swear by this before bed, and it helps alleviate that morning misery!!

Antihistamines as needed, such as Benadryl, Dramamine, meclizine (non drowsy Dramamine)! Also, ginger candies, zofran, motion sickness bracelets, magnesium glycinate supplements, digestive enzymes. Ginger tea (make sure there’s no black pepper in the tea)! Usually, most things that make you feel sleepy or relaxed, will help the most!!

💢Triggers:

A lot, but not all, are triggered by caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, cinnamon and black pepper!!

‼️STRESS IS A HUGE trigger, and is usually what sets off an episode ... as well as any cannabinoid product, including CBD‼️

⏰ How long does it take?:

Takes most people 2-6 weeks or so to get over the hump. Full recovery is different for everyone. Some people a few weeks, some people six months +... but for most it’s around 90 days. Unfortunately, there is no way to rush the healing process.

Walking / light exercise helps A LOT with the anxiety and getting your GI tract moving!! A few things that help others feel better:

*Pepcid and Claritin (or Zyrtec or Allegra) taken together once daily: this helps with nausea and for irritation

*Benadryl: sleep and nausea

*Dramamine and non drowsy Dramamine (meclizine): nausea

Chelated Magnesium Glycinate (Thorne and Pure Encapsulations are both good brands! Quality matters here!): anxiety, moodiness, cramping, depression, headaches, sleep, nausea *MAKE SURE YOUR MAGNESIUM IS SAFE WITH ANY OTHER MEDS YOU TAKE!* (magnesium CITRATE doesn’t mix well with a lot of SSRi medications!)

*Digestive Enzymes - helps with acid reflux and breakdown of food in your stomach.

*Capsaicin cream: stomach pain

*Imodium: diarrhea

*Methylated Vitamin B complex and / or a lipid soluble Thiamine (B-1) supplement: Nerve health, tinnitus, weakness, low energy, digestion, depression.

📛WARNING!!!: Capsaicin cream burns like a bitch, so do a tiny test spot first.

🌀TO ALLEVIATE BURNING: whole milk, vinegar or alcohol, dish soap, cooking oil.

🍽 Food:

HYDRATION IS IMPERATIVE AND PLAIN WATER ISN’T ENOUGH!! Make sure to drink Electrolytes such as pedialyte, liquid IV, Drip Drop ORS, hydralyte, etc. You NEED the electrolytes they have in order to rehydrate properly! If you simply cannot hold fluids down, the ER is critical for IV fluids!! (For reference, a 1 liter IV bag has over 3,500mg of sodium in it! That’s how important sodium is!)

Simplify your diet. Go as healthy and clean as you can!! Less junk food, more fruits and veggies. Small, frequent snacks that your stomach can tolerate is best. Avoid the greasy foods that are hard to digest!! Digestive enzymes help A LOT here!!

Never hesitate to reach out for help!! This is a difficult road for many, and the support of others is critical!! ♥️
