Pranayama Waaa???
Pranayama, from Sanskrit (the oldest living language) can be most easily translated to as 'breathwork'.
PRANA - means 'life force energy' or 'breath' (you can think of 'chi' in Chinese philosophy and medicine)
AYAMA - is the means of how we intend our breath...inhale, exhale, hold, and suspend, or any combination of intent to control.
So a common examples you may not realize you are practicing pranayama might be, a big sigh out of frustration, a big breath in of excitement, or maybe after an intense cry - multiple breaths in before a sigh out the mouth.
My invitation to you is to notice when your breath changes, and what your state is (happy, anxious, grateful, stressed, energetic, tired, depressed, etc.). Jot it down on a piece of paper or a journal and I'd love to hear from you, what you noticed!
