An FDA advisory panel voted this week to recommend that two peptides, BPC-157 and KPV, be made available through compounding pharmacies.

Here is what that actually means, because the internet is already getting it wrong.

It was a recommendation, not an approval. The vote was 8 to 6 with one abstention. FDA’s own scientists recommended against it, citing limited human safety data. The FDA has not made a final decision.

If FDA agrees, these peptides could be produced by licensed compounding pharmacies instead of purchased from gray market sites labeled “research use only.” That is a meaningful safety improvement. It is not the same as FDA approval.

More votes are happening this week on TB-500, MOT-C, Epitalon, Semax and Emideltide.

Myth check: you can’t catch cyclospora from a sick friend. 🥬 This year’s outbreak is real, the CDC has linked it to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell in five states (NOT NJ), but the parasite spreads through contaminated food and water, not person to person. Rinsing produce won’t reliably remove it either. Here’s what actually protects you: know the usual culprits (leafy greens, bagged salad, basil, cilantro, berries) and wash them thoroughly, and if a parasite wipes you out, dehydration is the real risk, so hydrate and see a provider.
