✨ Welcome to Clearly Hormonal ✨

Reset Recharge not ending—it’s EVOLVING.

Same mission. Same science. But with a name that finally matches what we’ve really been talking about all along.

Because let’s be honest… hormones were always the main character.

Welcome to the next era 💛

“Are we going to talk about your hair loss?”

That’s what my dermatologist friend bluntly asked me one day.

And honestly? I had been ignoring it.

Brushing off the extra shedding as “just stress”, putting my hair up in a ponytail, shifting my part—anything to avoid facing the truth.

For many women, hair loss isn’t just about appearance. It’s deeply tied to identity, confidence, and how we feel about ourselves. And for so many women, especially during pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause, it can be tough to figure out what’s actually causing it—and what to do next.

In my latest episode, I sit down with Dr. Nancy Echefu, a hair transplant surgeon, to break it all down. Tune in now to discover:
✔️ The two major classifications of hair loss: scarring vs. non-scarring alopecia
✔️ The difference between hair loss and shedding (and how much shedding is actually normal)
✔️ Dr. Echefu’s comprehensive approach to treatment
✔️ Practical advice for anyone experiencing hair loss but unsure where to start

Why wait until symptoms hit to start preparing for menopause?

Menopause isn’t a quick, one-and-done moment.

It’s a major life transition that spans most of your lifetime. For many women, perimenopause can last anywhere from five to ten years—sometimes even longer.

So, why do so many of us wait until symptoms overwhelm us before we start paying attention?

The truth is, the earlier you prepare, the more control you’ll have over your experience.

By taking a proactive approach, you can manage your health throughout this journey, rather than scrambling when things feel out of control.

In my latest episode of Reset/Recharge, I’m breaking down 10 key strategies to help you approach perimenopause and menopause with confidence.

From tracking your symptoms and optimizing sleep to managing metabolic health and knowing when to seek treatment, this episode is packed with actionable insights to help you take charge of your health *before* you feel overwhelmed.

As our hormones change, so do our sleep patterns. 🛌

And as someone who could previously fall asleep anywhere (seriously, anywhere!), I’ve certainly noticed how much harder it is to get a good night’s rest as I get older.

So how do we reclaim better sleep, especially during menopause?

Instead of relying on compensatory habits like caffeine or sugar just to stay awake, there are effective, natural strategies we can use to improve our sleep. And the good news is, we certainly don’t need to turn to medication as a first resort.

Join me for an insightful conversation with Dr. Andrea Matsumura, a board-certified sleep medicine physician, who shares practical tips for improving sleep naturally during perimenopause and menopause.

In this episode, you’ll learn:
* How hormonal changes during menopause disrupt sleep patterns
* The importance of sleep for managing overall health
* Practical tips for creating a sleep-friendly bedtime routine
* How to manage sleep disturbances without reaching for medication
* The role of cognitive behavioral therapy in treating chronic insomnia

If you’re someone who is currently struggling with sleep during menopause, don’t miss Dr. Matsumura’s expert advice on overcoming sleep challenges and feeling more energized in this new chapter of life.

Did you know PCOS is one of the most common hormonal disorders, yet most women don’t even know they have it?

Despite affecting millions, it’s often called a “disease of exclusion,” diagnosed only after ruling out other conditions. This means women can suffer for years with symptoms like irregular periods, weight gain, and acne before finding answers.

But early intervention is key. Recognizing PCOS early can prevent serious long-term health issues like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
It’s time to give PCOS the attention it deserves—early diagnosis can change the course of women’s health.

To help us better understand PCOS, I invited my wonderful colleague, Dr. Sonia Hans, to join me on the latest episode of Reset/Recharge. Dr. Hans is a triple board-certified physician in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, as well as obesity medicine and internal medicine and together, we break down the complexities of this condition.

Here’s what you’ll learn:
* What PCOS is (and why the name can be so misleading!)
* How it’s diagnosed (and why it’s often delayed, leaving women struggling for years)
* The tight link between PCOS and metabolic syndrome
* Why early diagnosis is crucial
* How GLP-1 meds are revolutionizing PCOS treatment (and even contributing to a rise in “oops babies”!)

We also discuss how PCOS evolves during perimenopause and menopause—an area that so often gets overlooked.

If you’ve been searching for answers about PCOS (or know someone who is), this conversation will bring clarity, hope, and actionable steps to better understand and manage this misunderstood condition.

What a great way to spend World Diabetes Day! I was honored to be part of the expert panel for the ADA’s State of Diabetes event in Seattle today. We had great conversations throughout the morning with all of the attendees on what we can do to better support diabetes and obesity care in the workplace.

“For the perimenopausal woman, there have been studies that have shown that hormone replacement therapy decreased the progression of prediabetes to diabetes by 30%.”

In the first installment of The Endocrine Series, we explored insulin resistance—a condition where the body struggles to use insulin effectively, often exacerbated by hormonal shifts during perimenopause.

Now, we’re shifting our focus to prediabetes, a critical stage where blood sugar levels are elevated but not yet high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
The good news is, developing type 2 diabetes doesn’t have to be inevitable!

Early intervention is key.

In my latest episode of The Endocrine Series, we dive into simple yet effective lifestyle changes—like dietary adjustments and increased physical activity—that can reverse prediabetes, regulate blood sugar, and significantly lower your risk of developing complications such as heart disease, stroke, and other metabolic disorders. We also discuss medical treatments such as anti-obesity medications and hormone replacement therapy to further support metabolic health.

Join me now for practical tips on managing prediabetes and preventing the progression to type 2 diabetes. Together, we can take proactive steps toward better health!

I’m excited to kick off my new Endocrine Series on the Reset/Recharge podcast with my latest episode, where I tackle the crucial topic of insulin resistance and its significant impact on women’s health, especially during perimenopause.

Did you know that hormonal changes can lead to increased insulin demand, making it tougher for your body to regulate blood sugar?

In this episode, we explore:
(1) Insulin Resistance: What it is and how the pancreas functions.
(2) Autoimmune Factors: How autoimmune attacks can lead to type 1 diabetes.
(3) Body Composition Changes: The role of increased visceral fat in insulin demand.
(4) Hormonal Shifts: How decreasing estrogen during perimenopause exacerbates insulin resistance.
(5) Monitoring and Management: Key steps to track insulin resistance and discuss treatment options with your healthcare provider.

Tune in now to discover practical steps you can take to better manage insulin resistance and enhance your metabolic health!

Plus, stay tuned for the next installment, where we’ll dive into pre-diabetes!

Insulin resistance gets worse for most women during peri-/menopause. As estrogen decreases, body composition changes with a decrease in muscle mass and weight gain around the waist line. That increased weight around the middle is usually visceral fat, which is known to increase the amount of insulin our bodies need to use and store the carbs we eat. This means that people need more insulin to process the same carbs they were eating when they were carrying less weight around the middle.

Tune in for the first episode of Reset/Recharge: The Endocrine Series when it drops next week.
