In Washoe County, we’re witnessing a growing concern for youth mental health that we simply cannot ignore. According to recent statistics, over 47% of high school students in Washoe County report feeling persistently sad or hopeless.* This alarming trend highlights the urgent need for adults in our community to be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to support our young people.

Mental Health First Aid training is crucial for anyone who interacts with youth—parents, educators, coaches, and community leaders alike. This training empowers adults to recognize the signs of mental health challenges, respond appropriately, and guide our youth towards the help they need. By understanding and addressing mental health issues early on, we can foster a supportive environment where young people feel safe and understood.

Let’s come together as a community to prioritize the mental well-being of our youth. Join us in advocating for Mental Health First Aid training in Washoe County. Together, we can make a difference! 💚

"We don’t yet know how changing the way social media works for kids will affect their mental health. There’s a chance that turning off algorithmic feeds will reduce the risk that they’re exposed to harmful content. It’s certainly possible that getting rid of targeted ads will have a positive effect. Better privacy is bound to keep kids safer from strangers online. If nothing else, we’ve at least started talking more about how these platforms work and could work better. And how we could feel better online and off."

The collective freakout about kids and social media has reached a tipping point.
