The VCU Black Alumni Council (BAC) Mentoring Circle is back for the 2026–2027 year with an exciting new twist!

We are moving to a Project-Based Mentoring Model—aligning with the university framework to give students hands-on, real-world experience while building powerful professional networks.

💼 Calling all alumni businesses and organizations! We need your real-world "problems of practice" for our students to solve. Interested in partnering with us as a Community Partner? So, if you work for an organization or have a business, let us help you!

When Carlton Goode is honored next month for his dedication to student success, he will be included in esteemed company.

Goode, who earned his Ed.D. from VCU in 2022, is the director of intercultural success and initiatives in VCU’s Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Global Initiatives. And as the faculty advisor for Developing Men of Color at VCU, he has propelled mentorship, academic support, professional development, leadership opportunities and community service to help students thrive in college and beyond.

Goode, whose research has focused on the retention of men of color, developed a course – Dynamic Principles for Professional Development – that supports that audience, and he is also the author of “Melanin Mind: Creating a Path of Excellence in College for Men of Color.”

On Oct. 27, Goode will be among six recipients this year of a Richmond Humanitarian Award from the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. Previous honorees have included Arthur Ashe Jr., Sen. Tim Kaine and Rep. Jennifer McClellan, as well as former VCU President Eugene P. Trani, Ph.D.

We are overjoyed! This past weekend's VCU Volunteer Leadership Summit was nothing but empowering! Three of our committee members won awards!

This is life as an alumni! There are so many ways to give back! Thank you to our BAC Programs and Events Committee Chair , immediate past president and current VCU DMV Chapter President , and BAC Social Media Chair and VCU Richmond Alumni Southside Chair for continuing to pour back into a community that pour into them while a student at VCU.

If you've been waiting for a sign on how you can be impactful, this is your sign to join BAC or your regional chapter in your area!
