On May 30th, Chapter members, O’Lillian Harris-Valentine and Thelma Roach Serry provided health education to inner city girls, ages 8 to 15. The event was hosted by My Sister’s Keeper Mentorship Program at Overby-Sheppard Elementary School in Richmond. This is the 2nd year that CVC-NBNA has been invited to present. The mentorship program meets monthly to provide a biblically based curriculum to participants. It is an affiliate of Children of the Promise, Inc. Erica Davis Dunn is the founder and CEO.

We received a beautiful thank you from our presenter that was posted on her FB page -

“Honored to once again support the Central Virginia chapter of the National Black Nurses Association during their Nurses Week celebration. ❤️

This event is especially meaningful to me because I do it in honor of my mother, who was a retired registered nurse. Her compassion, strength, and dedication to caring for others continue to inspire me every day.

Thank you for the certificate, the warm welcome, and the opportunity to share movement, wellness, and joy with your organization once again.

A special shout-out to all of the nurses — RNs, LPNs, CNAs, nurse practitioners, educators, retirees, and caregivers — including so many who take my fitness classes each week. Thank you for the compassion, patience, long hours, sacrifice, and care you pour into others every single day. Your work matters more than words can express. 💚”

Last night during our May meeting, Laurel Tuckett Gregory, ACE,AFAA showed us how important “Motion in Medicine” adds to helping us stay healthy.
What a way to honor our chapter members during Nurses Month. We exercised, enjoyed refreshments, received appreciation gifts for volunteerism and for being nurses, and some in-person and virtual members won door prizes.
Continue to celebrate what we do for ours and ourselves not just during Nurses Month, but everyday.

Nurse’s Week ends today, May 12 but Nursing is endless, selfless service to others.
